The Pickup Place / Re: Middle pickup suggestions?

Since you already have two humbuckers I wouldn’t put a single coil in the middle. It won’t hum cancel with the other two (unless you split them, which always sounds weak, IMO)

In my three pickup pickups (always with some form of hum canceling pickups) I find a bright middle pickup works best.

Or get another of what you have there already.

I'm curious why you would want to go with a True Velvet middle. It's a great pickup to be sure (almost an understament, it's a freakin amazing Strat pickup in the right guitar), however it is a vintage style pickup and doesn't seem to me to be  a modern style that would keep company particularly well  with the Mojo /Satch track combo.
I'd consider an FS-1 based on your aim, also a great pickup that might could hang with your other two pickups  in a more copacetic way.
As far as RW/RP, that seems to be to be more of an argument when dealing with strictly vintage output Strat pickups- some feel it takes away a bit from the feel of the pickup, but with your setup , I cannot see how it would matter.
Bear in mind, I am far from an expert on this, but I know many times I have posted here and have been delighted to see some feedback on my posts ASAP , no matter what.

Thank you for the feedback. Sounds like the FS-1 would be similar to a SD custom stack?

The Pickup Place / Re: Dimarzio PAF 36th vs. 59 PAF?

OK boyz... so i just installed the breed neck in the bridge, and the operation was successful. The patient lives!  The Breed rounded out the highs JUST enough to not to totally  icepick my ear, well, unless I really really turned the amp up, which I guess most pickups will do. In general, not as nice overall as the Antiquities, but  hey, you can't have your cake and eat it too, and it's a sacrifice I am more than willing to make. Still, the Breed neck in bridge is a very  good sounding pickup, and the middle /neck position really excels with my Gibson Burstbucker neck pickup.  Not sure what value pots , but using a .047 tone cap that also made a big difference when I replaced the .022 cap.
So if any of you are in a quandry with the same type of issue, and don't wanna go whole hog on something like an Air Zone for the bridge in a classic guitar ( like my 335 style), and want to stay PAF'ish , then might wanna try the Breed neck in bridge. I will say it takes some rather judicious tweaking of height to achieve optimal performance.
Still have not tried the Gravity Storm, however that is moving  sideways form the hot output PAF realm , but for now, the patient is healed and discharged.

Hi everyone,

I am enjoying my Mo'Joe and Satch Track combo. Currently have a fast track in the middle position, but want to transfer that to the bridge position of another guitar.
I am considering a True Velvet for that mid position- do I need to get the reverse polarity version or a straight ahead version?

I think Budd made a review on the Transition set. I will check whether I find the link.

Cheers Stephan

EDIT: seems to be gone, unfortunately.

The Pickup Place / Re: hotter than air classic bridge

I have no idea what the Air Classic sounds like since I never played one. But if you are looking for a hotter pickup that has a somewhat recessed midrange, that would be the Steve's Special (never played that one either, though).

What I did play that was going in that direction were the Seymour Duncan Custom 5 (SH-14) and the Bare Knuckle True Grit Bridge. Still broadly in PAF territory but more output. Of those two the Custom 5 appears to have more low midrange but I never had them back to back in the same guitar, and the guitars they are in are very different.

Cheers Stephan

The Dimarzio PAF 59 is not going to help with your brightness problem. I would think that the Air Zone was a really good choice.

Thank you so much for the input! I trust that evaluation. What about a Transition Bridge? I have a set languishing in the dark  dank depths of my pickup dungeon. Hard to believe there is not a review on the Transition  pickup in the "Everything you Always wanted to know". Maybe a Breed neck in bridge?

EDIT- Well, ok folks, just ordered a Breed neck, wish me luck. If that doesn't work I'll throw in a Gravity Storm and call it a day. BTW, I had a Duncan Custom shop Pearly Gates/ Antiquities hybride in the bridge- nice pup, but up the neck had a bad shrill spike in the treble in this axe.

Thanks for your reply. My main guitar is a strat style body made of walnut. Its very finicky about the pickups that are in it.  I really liked the Eric Johnson and the Air Classic the best in this guitar.  I have tried probably a dozen different pickups in this guitar (mostly for fun), and I have settled on the air classic as my favorite.  (I have tried the 36 and liked the air classic better).  The AC has beautiful cleans and dirty sounds with this guitar. So when the pickups EQ gets a little more midrangy, the guitar doesn't like it (or I don't).  So I was just looking for something a little hotter (not a lot) with similar EQ.  Trying to maintain the AC's beauty (for lack of a better term) with a little more heat.
