Evolution vs Tone Zone for Maple
« on: September 20, 2016, 04:12:24 PM »
Just re acquired my custom 1988 USA Jackson Kelly that is believed to be maple or poplar (also dense and heavy) Thinking duel Evolutions, or possible Tone Zone bridge/Evolution neck. With the darker character of the guitar it was suggested the Evolution best. Input/advice? Thanks everyone!

Neither maple nor poplar are usually characterized as "dark" sounding but every piece of wood is different. If your guitar is indeed on the darker side of the spectrum then a brighter pickup can balance that.

Agreed.

A heavy wood doesn't necessarily equate to a dark character. Maple and even poplar are on the lively side. It also depends on your pedals and amp and what your goals are.

The Evolution and the Tone Zone are completely different sounds no matter what guitar you put them in. What tone are you aiming for?

Modern metal/shred. Amps used are 6505+ and Line 6 POD500X (second/backup rig).

Both will work so it just comes down to taste.

The TZ is like Chuck Norris roundkicking you in the chest.
The Evo is like Phil Anselmo screaming in your face.

Ok looks like Tone Zone/bridge and going with Air Norton/neck for the win.
