The Pickup Place / Favorite humbucker in a strat?
« on: March 15, 2021, 11:13:26 PM »
I'm liking the Tone Zone S in this strat, but I'm not a big fan of the look. I'm considering putting in a full size nickel covered humbucker. I just think it'll look much better. I'm eyeing either a Dimarzio 36th Anniversary or a Duncan Pearly Gates.
Curious what your preferences are?

The Pickup Place / Re: HSS wiring help. Tone Zone S and 2 Areas

I emailed Dimarzio support, and they sent me these 2 diagrams. 1 with a switch for bridge series/parallel, and one for bridge always on. They confirmed that the Areas' hot would be green and the Tone Zone S' hot would be red.

The Pickup Place / HSS wiring help. Tone Zone S and 2 Areas
« on: March 07, 2021, 11:00:44 AM »
I'd like to wire up my strat to have either the Tone Zone S in parallel or split in the 2nd position. I'm not sure which would sound better yet. But, would these diagrams be correct? I've read to use all the red wires as hot when using all Dimarzios, but these seem to contradict that.

The single coil pickups are from a MIM Stratocaster.

Hi guys, I'm trying to wire up my HSS strat with a Tone Zone S in the bridge. My question is, which wires are for the split, and which are hot and ground? Right now, I have the red as hot going to the 5 way, black and white together going to the 5 way for the split, and bare and green going to ground. I'm not sure if this is correct for the polarity in the 2nd position. I'm seeing several diagrams. Some have the black as hit, some have red as hot, some have green as hot.

Was any routing necessary?

Schaller LockMeister same specs as OFR.
Did your N24 have the angled route for the bridge, like mine has? Most of the replacement bridges that I'm seeing are more squared, which I think would require some routing.

Guitar Lounge / Schaller, Gotoh or Original Floyd Rose?

Hi everyone, Merry Christmas!

I'm considering replacing the Washburn branded FR on my N24. Compared to my Wolfgang and other guitar that has a Floyd, thus one just feels cheap and seems to affect the tone in a bad way. Which model should I choose for a replacement?

Where did you put the green wire of the SD Jazz? It should go to ground. If it does not, then I would not be surprised about only a faint sound (if at all) coming out.

Good luck,
Stephan
The green went to ground, along with the bare. I ended up just using a standard CTS 500k pot and it's working fine.

Not sure if anyone would be able to lend some knowledge. I'm replacing the cheap push pull pot that came with my Washburn N24, along with replacing the neck pickup with an SD Jazz. I've also cleaned up all of the unnecessary extra wire that was crammed in there. I've wired everything up the same way it was. The exception being the Jazz wire colors are different than the original Washburn neck pickup. So, I have the red and white Jazz wires where the Washburn red and green wires were. And the black Jazz wire where the white Washburn wire was. I'm getting sound, but it's very faint. The switching and coil tapping is also working.

Guitarelectronics.com has a lot of diagrams. Be prepared to piece a few together to fit your needs.
I didn't find any diagrams that match what I have in the N24.

The Pickup Place / Help with Washburn N24 wiring
« on: November 24, 2018, 09:59:10 PM »
I'm trying to replace the dull Washburn neck pickup in my N24 with a Duncan Jazz. But, I want to be sure what I have before I start disconnecting things. What I'm seeing doesn't match any of the wiring diagrams that I'm finding online. It's 2 Humbucker, 1 push/pull volume for coil split, 3 way toggle. The diagrams are only showing wires soldered to 4 of the 6 spots on the push/pull pot. But mine has wires soldered to all 6. The gray wire that I'm holding is the neck pickup wire. It appears to have a black grounded to the pot, a green and a red soldered to the far right lug of the push/pull, and a white soldered to the far left lug of the push/pull.

Hi everyone, I'm considering replacing the pickups in my N24. The stock Washburn neck pickup is not very good. Very dull sounding. I might give the L500XL in the bridge a bit more time before deciding if I want to replace it. But I definitely want to replace the neck pickup. This guitar is made of agathis wood.

Any suggestions?

I seem to remember that I put a Manlius T-Top replica in the neck of mine.

A possible fun option to pair with the L500 XL bridge is the Dean DMT Michael Batio HWS neck, which Batio says is modeled after his favorite Lawrence-era OBL neck pickup.
I've never heard of these.
