The Pickup Place / Re: 7 string Blaze Custom vs DActitvator
« on: October 28, 2016, 03:22:32 PM »
THAT was a great review! Ok I'm sold and ordering a Blaze Custom! As for Deact's I absolutely LOVE them. I just dropped a DA in the bridge and Air Norton in my Jackson KE2. Pure metal nirvana! As for the 7 strings I opted for a lower output and slightly less aggressive vibe and the original pups in my 7620 (I'm STILL confused what these are) but some swear it's the Blaze and they arent going anywhere! The Blaze Custom and PAF 7 in the 752FX  should prove a nice contrast and will post a follow up once I drop it in. Thanks again!

Thinking of swapping Blaze for Blaze Custom or DA in Ibanez RG752fx. Basswood, fx bridge. Metal/shred. Comparisons/thoughts?

Ok looks like Tone Zone/bridge and going with Air Norton/neck for the win.

EVO 2 looking good now! I've always been a high gain and high out put (EMG) player. My tone is primarily from a 6505+ into 4x12, tuned to D standard and seven strings at standard. The thing that Im experiencing as of late is is a lower output pup with an aggressive amp you hear much more 'personality' in the guitar. Used my USA King V w/ Deactivators (other guitars with active pups glared in jealousy) for a ton of tracking on band's album and it just KILLS. The Deact is def high output but has a 'grit' to it that I like and it's easier to tame in recording applications. For a little tonal diversity that's why I'm thinking a slightly lower pup (EVO 2) and have all the bases covered. Think I'm on the right track.

Modern metal/shred. Amps used are 6505+ and Line 6 POD500X (second/backup rig).

The Pickup Place / 6 string version of Blaze?

Loving the results with Blaze pups in my 7 string Prestige guitars. So much to wonder if there is a six string pup with similar character? Would be going into USA Jacksons. Both alder, neck through, floyd, tuned to D standard. Metal/shred. Ive heard Steve's Special is pretty close? Thoughts/advice?

The Pickup Place / Evolution vs Tone Zone for Maple

Just re acquired my custom 1988 USA Jackson Kelly that is believed to be maple or poplar (also dense and heavy) Thinking duel Evolutions, or possible Tone Zone bridge/Evolution neck. With the darker character of the guitar it was suggested the Evolution best. Input/advice? Thanks everyone!

The Pickup Place / New to DiMarzio, advice please
« on: September 07, 2016, 02:50:30 PM »
Hey all. Im a fairly new DiMarzio player. I am slowly after years swaying from active pups to passive and to date I've got four guitars with DiMarzio's in 'em. Two of which I have Deactivators in both a Jackson King and RR1. Both USA. Both same woods and Floyd. In the V they are crushing both live and in the studio. The RR for whatever reason is a little on the 'thuddy' side in comparison and lacks the harmonics and mids I get from the V. Is there a recommendation something comparable to the Deact's? Thinking Evolution in the bridge and not sure about neck. High gain/metal/shred use. Thanks everyone!
