Title: 1970s PAF Coil Wiring
Post by: sg335man on May 31, 2016, 08:20:52 AM
Hello, I would be grateful for any advise on wiring 1970s PAF pickups.  There are 2 x Black and 2 x White ONLY.  It appears theres a Black and White coming from each Coil?  I presume the blacks would be ground and the White Hot + I am using Braided wire, the Braided would be ground and the centre Black wire Hot +

Thanks for any advice help DH

You are correct that the black and white wires are coming from the coils. You can use white as hot and black as ground or vice versa in case you want (to avoid) an out of phase tone when both pickups are on. IMHO this wiring is already far advanced to the single braided wire where - as you said - centre is hot and the braid goes to ground with no good option to alter the phase of the pickup.

Thanks for your advice.  I had a e-mail reply from Tech Support saying to solider and tape the Black wires together.  The White wire from the Slug Coil is Ground and the White wire from the Screw Coil Hot +? DH

It seems I misunderstood your first post. I thought that there were only a black and a white wire coming from the pickup, not from each coil. Please ignore what I posted and go with the advice received from the tech support.
