Hello and welcome

This section is an open forum for members to contribute whatever they know about a particular favourite pickup. While there are plenty of sites (actually just one or two) that offer reviews of a particular pickup, this section was created so that you can educate the rest of us on what you know about a particular pickup you have plenty of experience with. Feel free to include any sound clips or video demonstrations you may have of yourself demo'ing the said pickup. (NOTE: Sound clips and Youtube videos linked here are a GREAT way to promote yourself and your band! Just don't abuse it!).

I know this section will be quite small at first with just a handful of pickups, but with your help and experience we can hopefully one day as a community, compile info on all the DiMarzio's out there! So if a thread hasn't been started about a pickup you want to put your input into, feel free to start one

I have seen the ToneZone get the "muddy" rap before and I have to ask myself a couple of questions which are:

1.  Did the user adjust the height of the pickup
2.  Did the user adjust the screws on the pickup
3. and more importantly, did the user re-eq his amp? (ex. turned down the GAIN)

On another pickup forum the Tone Zone gets this very same bad rap only to find out that the person on the other forum  had a dual recto, with the gain on full and pushing it with a boss mega distortion pedal.  My response to that user was that I could get a 62 strat to sound like mud with those settings.  Too many folks believe that the tonal heavens will open and angels will sing by just swapping out pickups and not adjusting the amp and effects (if any).

You know, you hit the nail right on the head with that. Although it's not for everyone, the Tone Zone is definitely a pickup that's requires quite a bit of work to really dial in at times but once you get it to sound good, it sounds great. That's why it's still my #1 goto pickup when I don't know what to stick in a guitar.

Wow it's been a loooooooooong time since I late heard anyone mention the Fred Lite. It was used in the Ibanez FGM 300 in the neck position with a "Paf Pro Lite" in the bridge position. I think it was described as a Fred and a Paf Pro with less string pull from a decrease in the magnetic field (ref: 1994 Ibanez Catalog), so it's probably just the Fred and the PAF Pro with the air bucker technology before they started using the "Airbucker" terminology. I don't think these ever became actual models outside of being models for the FGM300.

I remember seeing somewhere that Dimarzio has stated that the "Norton Lite" on the original Ibanez JPM100 was actually the Air Norton before it was released, if the Fred lite and the Paf Pro lite were to be released, it'd likely be called the Air Fred and Air Paf Pro.

Thank you for the info page Nick. I probably won't sticky this one just yet. I guess I should probably add the description and say that it's got the sweet smooth distortion that makes the Duncan JB so popular but has better bottom end (at least in my opinion) and doesn't have the annoying honkiness.

It's also got that 80's hair metal / old school Van Halen vibe if that's what your going for. ie. Your ideal tone is lots of smooth sounding mids, polished top end and nice tight bottom end (kinda like your run way super models of the day).

As much as I like the Paf 36th, I do believe that they should bring back the VPaf and VHPaf pickups as well. I don't see why they can't just offer it as a custom ordered pickup. You're getting my vote on this. If I do make it to NAMM this January I'll definitely ask the guys at Dimarzio about it.

No, it's cool man. Take your time, trust me when I say I of all people understand how little free time a person can have, I don't think I've gotten more than three hours of sleep in a night for the past two and a half weeks. Take your time, there's no rush man.

You're starting to sound like me with the amount of sleep you get. My days start around 2:30-3am and end around 10-11pm on a consistent basis. Rest assured though, I *WILL* get it done.

There are several ebay vendors and plenty of other brick & mortar stores that sell the ISCV2. You can always try musicansfriend or music123 or zzounds, but if they don't have it, you can always ask DImarzio
