The Pickup Place / Low output humbuckers for distorted tones

So, in looking at the low output dimarzio humbuckers, what to try than stands up well to distortion, and doesn't collapse or have that chimey end when presented with a lot of gain?  Going into a charvel natural custom series (roasted mahogany body, roasted maple neck).

The Pickup Place / Norton vs moe joe

I like the Norton, with the harmonics and whatnot, but I find it a bit too "modern" sounding and a bit too big.  Thinking the Mo Joe would be a good alternative...or the fred?  Think a vintage Norton type sound.....

The Pickup Place / RG 560 and Norton

I guess tastes change over time....I used to really dig the norton in my old RG 560, but now I find it too much, a bit too full and even the highs a bit much.  I do have the S norton in the neck which I really like...still

Looking for a medium output pickup that's a bit less aggressive than the norton, more towards PAF then modern sounding.  Air zone seems like it would be too big, breed bridge maybe too much mids?  Or not?
