In theory... err... you could, but why (even half) air it when you can have a perfectly good Norton?

I know that the 36th Anniversary PAF "replaced" the VPAF set, but to my ear it's a bit thicker and fatter; the thing I liked about the VPAF set is that it had a decent amount of brightness to it, yet still stayed fat, almost like a thicker Stratocaster pickup.
Post below if you'd like DiMarzio to bring back the Virtual PAF set!
Hi there, I have a Vpaf neck and a hpaf bridge in my musicman silhouette. They sound pretty clean, airy, and clean to me but I'd like something with more output and bite and yet retain those qualities. Do the 36th Anniversary pickups fit the bill?
Thanks.
Cheers for the update. The other pickup the store has is a Fred. Not too sure about that one, cause I have yet to hear clips of those in the neck position...
Wow, all of you guys are into Vaughn, Vai, Satriani, Hendrix and such, and now I feel like an outcast. My First guitar Idol was Dickey Betts of all people. Him, as well as Duane Allman were my first guitar idols.
Dickey Betts and Duane Allman are great guitarists. In terms of pickups Betts is a great example of the Pearly Gates PAF, and Allman of vintage (by today's standards underwound) PAFs.
Decline. 36th Annv. supercedes it IMHO.
Hopefully it can be orderd, but i don;lt see any real reason for the company to go in retrograde for the whim of 6 or 8 people.
in the folowing order;
Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Beck, Townshend,
Van Halen was always a wanker compared to them. Not to diminish his skill at all, but at the end of the day he doesnt make the top 5.
Has anyone tried a HFH in the bridge position before???
That's where I love it.
Well then, describe to me how it sounds like then. I was thinking of a HFH/HS2/HFH setup in my Ibanez RGR470...
It's pretty bright. LOTS of top end, tight bass. Rather clear and defined. Sounds pretty badass with some dirt, it really gives a whole new tone to your guitar. In mahogany it'd probably be more rounded (probably packs a lot of punch...), and it would probably ad nice cut to basswood. I like it in swamp ash, which helps accentuate its top end.
Personally, I prefer the D Activator Neck in the bridge.
Is the Neck even sharper than the Bridge in it's place? Does it give that twang to it?
