Dimarzio Breed bridge with A2 mag?
« on: April 26, 2020, 08:12:47 PM »
Anyone done so?  Mostly looking for a bit less output which the A2 mag should take care of...

Putting in an A2 will change a lot more than the output. I have never tried it with Dimarzio Pickups, only Duncans, but if generalities hold true, you will probably notice even fatter mids, reduced spongier bass, and reduced, more rounded treble. The 36th Bridge is a good lower output alternative.

Try changing the pots to 250k value ones. I had the same issue as you, the 250k pots tame the highs without muddying up the pickup. Lowers the output a bit as well.

You can also solder a 470k or 560k resistor (500k is not a standard resistor value but you can use to 1 megs in parallel) from output to ground instead of changing the volume pot to 250k. Faster and cheaper, and if you have several values at hand, you can finetune the response until the icepick is gone but not so far that the articulation is lost. E.g.

a 500k pot in parallel with a 2.2 meg resistor gives a load of approx. 400k
a 500k pot in parallel with two 3.3 meg resistors gives a load of approx. 380k
a 500k pot in parallel with a 1 meg resistor gives a load of approx 330k

The right value is the one you like best.
