couple of ways you could approach this with an HSH setup

with a multipole 5 way switch you could get:

- neck hb
- one neck coil in parallel w middle sc
- one neck coil in parallel w one bridge coil
- one bridge coil in parallel w middle sc
- bridge hb

then add:

a killswitch for the middle sc to get just coil split humbuckers in pos 2 and 4

or

you could do the az partial tap for the hb's instead of the killswitch, so pos 1 and 5 will be the partially split hb's. pos 2, 3, 4 will remain the same. I'd recommend this if the hb's are low output. otherwise, full coil split is better.

This means no middle sc by itself, which I never found useful anyway, but if it's a must I can come up with some other wiring options for you to consider.

Also, I think you're maybe the power tap feature with parallel wiring on the az? It's actually like a partial split using either a resistor, or a cap, or both resistor and cap to partially ground one of the coils (essentially make one of the coils quieter) to achieve a singlecoil-like sound without a huge volume drop.

I've tried this before, and it's really more useful for low output humbuckers. Just regular coil splitting is more preferable for hot hb's imo.

ok, if I'm interpreting correctly, your guitar currently has this configuration

but you also want this? except for the two hb's in parallel

What exactly are all the combinations you're wanting to get? From what I've read you want

-bridge hb
-neck hb
-brige hb and neck hb
-neck hb in parallel
-middle(?) sc with either hb
-middle sc by itself?

The Pickup Place / Re: Dimarzio Breed bridge with A2 mag?

Try changing the pots to 250k value ones. I had the same issue as you, the 250k pots tame the highs without muddying up the pickup. Lowers the output a bit as well.

I know this thread is almost a year old, but I'd thought I'd chime in anyway.

Standard duncan singlecoils are south polarity, dimarzios are north. Wind directions are the same, but this doesn't really matter as far as compatibility since you can just swap the hot and ground leads when soldering to change the wind direction.

So for a duncan and dimarzio singlecoil pups to be humcancelling and in phase both need to be standard (according to each brand's specs), but when wiring it up you need to swap the hot and ground on one of the pickups.

In your case, if you have a duncan in the bridge and dimarzios in the middle and neck, to be humcancelling in pos 2 and 4 you'll need a standard true velvet in the middle, and a rwrp true velvet in the neck, and the hot and ground with both pickups will need to be soldered the other way around (as in, if the duncan is wired white-hot, black-ground, the dimarzios will need to be the other way around: black-hot, white-ground)

The Pickup Place / Re: smooth pickup to replace breed neck

oh i see what you're saying, the air norton too bass heavy to match with anything but the tone zone. that's interesting the eq chart for the air norton is B:6.5/M:7/T:5 while the breed neck is 7.5/7.5/5, but I guess eq isn't everything.

I wish I could just buy the air norton to try, but then I have to drill out the holes in the feet to direct mount it, then I can't exchange it, and it makes it difficult to resale....

Do you think being further away from the bridge ina 22 frer guitar would make up for that?

That's exactly what I'm going for, smooth to the point where you hear virtually no pick attack and the notes kinda smush together in fast runs. I wonder how it will balance with the breed bridge tone wise? I've read on a different thread that they don't match very well in the same guitar

The Pickup Place / smooth pickup to replace breed neck

Installed a set of breeds in my parts strat. Digging these much better than the jb/59 combo I had in it before. The guitar is inherently bright with lots of pop so the fatness and smoothness of the breeds seem to work well, but...not 100% satisfied with the neck tbh

It's fat for sure, but it still has a glassy, sharp pick attack that I dislike in neck pickups, and it's too loud compared to the bridge pickup. I suppose that makes sense because it was designed for a 24 fret guitar. I've tried messing with the pickup height to no avail.

I'm considering getting an air norton for the neck. It has a lower mV rating so less output, and it's a smooth pickup afaik. I've tried it before in an Ibanez RG and I remember liking it, really good for smooth, singing leads. My main concern is how it will balance with the breed in the bridge? Is it different enough from the breed neck to warrant trying it? Liquifire instead?
