The Pickup Place / Re: Too boomy Evolution neck

I had the same problem with Evolution neck and added a capacitor in series. Now it is perfect!
Cheap and simple fix.

Breed neck is my preferred hot paf for the bridge position. It may be what you are looking for.

Evo 2 is one step up from Norton. It has similar tone with a little more output and scream. Both have tight low end, a lot of mids and definition.

There are some suggestions of components and values in the manual of the pickups. If you don´t have them, you can download from the website.

I have been following Dimarzio´s suggestion for the resistor in parallel and it works very well for all pickups I tried (Evo 2, Evo neck, Norton etc). Actually the taper is also more linear and better now.

If you can play like Wes Montgomery, no one will care about the guitar/pickup you are using...  ;)

Well you're not going to sound like Wes Montgomery with an SSS guitar but Scott Henderson and Oz Noy among others play jazz/fusion on a strat so why not? Use the neck pickup and roll the tone down a bit. Should work.

For something that does the jazz thing plus YJM and SRV pretty well I'd either go Injector Bridge/Injector Neck/Injector Neck OR..... Virtual Solo / VV 54 Pro (or Area 67) / Heavy Blues 2. Or some mix between those.

Thanks, JazzFromHell. Great recommendation. Oddly, I was able to find some YouTube videos with this exact setup. I'm blown away at the range and diversity of these pups together. The HB2 sounds almost like a hybrid between Yngwie and Satriani. Very intriguing. Great clean tones, SRV dirty blues, and neoclassical from one guitar.

And I could never sound like Wes, even with his exact setup.

The Pickup Place / Re: Air Zone with less bass?

I did the same mod on a Evolution Neck and it sounds much better for leads. I still prefer the original configuration for cleans though. I can still switch the cap in and out with a push pull tone pot.

Evo neck may be a good choice. It is loud and got a good high end...

Evo neck is somewhat close to Paf Pro. Both have some single-coil hi-end and pick attack and cut through the mix easily. However, the Evo neck also has more midrange and low end, which makes it a bit louder, fuller, fatter, and punchier than Paf Pro. The lows are brighter and the overall sound is more aggressive than the Pro, probably due to the Ceramic magnet.

If you like Paf Pro and is looking for something a bit fatter and more aggressive with a great pick attack, the Evo Neck may be a good choice.

It is a great match for the Evo 2 in the bridge...

Have you tryed the Norton? It is not that far from Tone Zone but with a tighter bass and much more presence.
It is a very crunchy and juicy pickup...
