Yup! Green and bare to ground. Your old pickup probably wasn't 4-conductor, so it would just have a bare ground wire.

I'm a pretty die-hard prog guy, but I'm not really into Tool. I think MJK is his band name, and while Justin Chancellor is a killer bassist, their songs have never really done it for me. I don't know, just kinda repetitive. The fans, though, absolutely killed it for me. I don't know if any of you are into indie games, but it's a similar thing to Undertale: it's not bad, and while it's not my cup of tea I'm interested in trying it, but the fanbase is so rabid and "this is literally better than sliced bread you uncouth moron" that I'm pretty happy staying at a 10-foot pole's distance.
Happy people writing articles about Tool don't have to put ". . .their latest album, 2006's Lateralus. . ." in said articles anymore though.

I like both, but for different reasons.
The Tele IMO is an incredible songwriting tool, especially if you get one without extra switching and stuff, because it gives you a good but simple palette of sounds that work well in basically every context without having too much stuff and giving you option paralysis.
The Strat on the other hand is more of a performance player, for when you have music that you want to pick up and play, because (IMO) it's a much more comfortable guitar that really just gets out of your way (especially the Superstrats and variants thereof I'm a big fan of). That's not to say a Tele is uncomfortable or hard to play, it's just that the slab body with no contouring and the different balance make it a lot more utilitarian.
In your shoes? I'd grab a higher-end Tele (the simpler design I think benefits from higher-quality woods and hardware a lot, and you'll be missing out in a cheaper model - American Standards are a pretty great model to go for) to use as-is and once I got comfortable with using it and wanted something a little different, I'd put together my own Strat. A good partscaster can be an incredibly versatile and personal instrument, and personally I think the Strat makes the best partscaster due to the sheer mountain of stuff you can put in them.
I will say too if you're an acoustic player you could pick up a used Am Standard and fit it with a piezo pickup to bridge the gap while you get used to it. I know you can find a few piezo-equipped Teles on Reverb pretty regularly.

Breed neck and bridge, with something like an FS-1 or SDS-1 (I'd go with the SDS personally) in the middle. The Breed set was made for Steve Vai because he wanted his JEM to sound like a Les Paul - the JEM is alder, generally, and otherwise basically the same spec as any RG, so you should get similar results with your 670. The SDS-1 is designed to be something P90-like in a Strat-sized housing, so in the middle position on its own or split with the Breed set, it should give you some cool sounds in the vein of what you're looking for.
I will say that these pickups, especially the Breed set, is a little more "modern"-voiced, but aimed at more "vintage" sounds, so I think it should work for you pretty well.

H&K Grandmeister Deluxe 40 into a DV Mark Neoclassic 2x12. Recently picked up a Nektar Analog Drive to blend some other dirt textures. It's got basically every vibe you'd want with it's own character (it is to a Marshall/Vox as a Supro is to a Fender, kinda broad and big in the midrange with extended lows and highs), has a pretty good basic pallete of effects to toss in, and the entire rig (with the cab) weighs like 45lbs. My old Legacy III weighed almost as much (43lbs IIRC), and the Carvin 2x12 I used with it weighed 60 on its own. Plus pedalboard and effects, it got a little out of hand.

If you want something more HSH-y, I would say whatever bridge hum you want (Breed Neck seems like it might work for you), something like a True Velvet or FS1 (but dropped all the way to the pickguard), and a Pro Track in the neck. It's (as far as I gather from the literature and word-of-mouth) a rails take on the PAF Pro. You might find it bright in the bridge, but in the neck it will get you a little more clarity and brightness that can be really welcome with a neck humbucker.

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on it when you get it, I'm considering swapping out the Lithiums in my Kiesel CL for Berylliums at some point. I really like them, but they're pretty different from all my other guitars and need some pretty drastically different EQ which isn't always practical when switching guitars.
Had not considered the heavy blues at all, but am almost sold based on the above - will check it out.
Curious re The Breed suggestion (i didn't know they still made it?) - any reason for that one in particular? I haven't tried it. Have liked Nortons, Air Zones, Mo Joes, but never tried the Vai based pups....
Lastly - re the Kiesel - this'll be my second - I bought a Vader 2-3 years ago and it pretty much became the only thing I use. It's awesome. This one is just a variation on a theme. I got the standard single coil and the beryllium humbucker with it.
Happy to post picture of the new one when it gets here. I'd post a pic of my existing Vader if i could remember how to attach images - been a few years since ive been on a forum...

ehh I wouldn't say the FRED is a particularly big-sounding pickup. If you go listen to any of the FRED-era Satch stuff, it does this interesting single-coily thing under gain that's really cool, but more precise and dynamic than big.
OP also mentioned they found the PAF Pro too bright, and the FRED is pretty noticeably brighter to my ears.

I'd go Norton personally. I'd just say to also consider the Evo neck in the bridge position. The Evo 1 and 2 bridge are really hot and have a really distinctive character, but the neck pickup in the bridge is a little more "normal" with some of the good qualities of the bridge pickups.

MP is magnetic polarity, it's important to match it up (which doesn't seem to be an issue here) to make sure that when two singles (or a split hum/single or two split hums) are hum-cancelling. Both Dimarzio and Anderson seem to use the same polarity so it should plug right in no problem, but if you still get noise with your autosplits, then you'd want to reverse the A and B coils.

Either one of those is good if you want a more humbuckery neck pickup. Something like a Heavy Blues 2 would work well if you want more of a single-coil neck tone that will balance well tonally and output-wise with a humbucker.

The color codes for the Anderson and Dimarzio pickups are probably different. I know for Dimarzio, you want bare and green to ground, white and black together, and red is hot (for standard series operation). If you have autosplits on your switch, you'd have to figure out what the Anderson color scheme is to translate it.

Heck, I got my CL6 because it's a headless but looks and feels for all intents and purposes like a superstrat, and then my Strandy Classic 6 because it's. . . honestly it's basically a superstrat with a couple of bites taken out, even looks the part pretty well.
I'd go Hamer > Suhr > PRS > Majesty > Axis personally. Killer riffs, and killer sounds!
