The Pickup Place / Re: Press Release : DiMarzio releases Fortitude Pickup
« on: January 18, 2020, 05:30:46 AM »
DiMarzio needs pickup like EQ of Virtual PAF Bridge, with output of Air Classic bridge. ;)
6/6/5 with 230 mv output. ;)

We don't need tons of hot pafs. ;)
We have 36th, PAF Master and now this. 3 very similar pickups. -.-

Yap, as most people. XD
Luckily I'm very limited with my paycheck. xD

Guitar Lounge / If someone has a hard time finding music inspiration ....
« on: January 12, 2020, 02:23:52 AM »
I'm not sure how to name this topic, ... But this should be for that type of people who have a hard time like finding musical inspiration or they have no idea of creating new music, or they are into one sound, and can't get out of that "safety box". You may find this topic very usefull.

All my life I was way always drown to like one specific guitar design sound. I tried like most of this "classic designs", and I found my sound in one. And for me - that design is perfect guitar for me.

And I have no problem with 1st part of topic.

But some time ago, I tried really, one guitar where I have absolutely all specs on guitar. So it's like the complete opposite of my "The Guitar". Nothing in that guitar atracts me in any way in terms of specs ... I really dislike that wood, I really dislike that types of pickups ......

But oh my God, it was such a fun instrument. Even if I hate all the specs. But it was really a fun instrument. My "The guitar" is still the "best" guitar. But this one was such an inspiring instrument, even if I hate all the specs.

So if you need inspiration for a new tone or new music .... Take your butt to music store, and take the guitar in your hand , which you would never pick in a million years in "normal circumstances". ;)

PS. take this advice on your own safety. XD GAS issue warning. XD

Sry, but this 3 pickups have absolutely nothing in common. xD
It would be cool if like dilema was between PAF Master neck, 36th PAF neck and Virtual PAF neck.
I really don't see any similar point between this 3 pickups. xD
We have like classic hot PAF design, single coil strat in humbucker format, and shreddy neck. xD
I really don't see anything in common, sry. -.-

I'm happy that you don't need regular middle SC alone sound.

This is even more simple then, then 5 way + mini toggle.

Way more simple.

Solution with mini toggle or push pull is complicated for me. XD

But luckily I'm in same boat.

I don't care about neck + bridge.

It would be cool to have. But I use that position like 1% of time. So funky middle SC only, is way better for me. ;)

Since I'm like HSS Strat player who plays on neck/midd mostly.
In my take, I would keep 5 way, and add switch for bridge ... Since I play mostly clean on neck, I would in my case put it on bridge.
But if you are opposite of that and force bridge and dirty, put it on neck. ;)

Luckily for me.
Neck + bridge is nice option to add, ofc.
Bot for some reason, I prefer middle SC alone sound. XD
It's nice option to have for sure. But I'm used to funky middle SC sound ... And since I play on clean more, it's way more usefull for me. ;)

I did seen people did it for two pickups somehow. Like both neck and bridge ... But I would do it on my way. ;)

This pretty much works like regular 5 way.

But it's an on / off switch for other like 2 positions. ;)

So you really keep original 5 positions.

And with on/off you get this 2 extra options.

But it's better to choose it for 1 pickup only.

Either neck or bridge. ;)

Depends if you play more clean or dirty. ;)

If you play more dirty and bridge, add it on neck.
If you play more clean and neck, add it to bridge.

Add it to pickup which you use less of the two. I find this way more practical. ;)

This gives you all 5 original positions.

And mini toggle would give you 2 extra: neck + bridge , and all 3 pickups. ;)

I've seen people did get it in that way. ;)

So if you are on like:
Neck + middle .... So in 2nd. If you add mini toggle for bridge, you will get all 3.
Or if you are on neck only, and add toggle on bridge, in 1st would give you neck + bridge.

But the trick is: you need to decide if you want that mini toggle on bridge or neck. You can get it on 1 pickup only.

Pretty much like Stratocaster tone pots.
You can either get it for like bridge, and other for neck and middle.
Or you can get it for middle, and other for neck and bridge. ;) So you can get like, difference in sound based on different pot values. FE bridge tone pot on 10, middle tone pot on like 6. And together you get that something not regular.

Same with this mini toggle.

You are either like, all time on bridge. In that case you kinda do add mini toggle to on/off neck one.

Or if you are more on neck, add mini toggle on bridge ......

Deprends what is more practical for you.

If I would kinda play clean more, I would put it on bridge.
And if I played dirty more, I would put it on neck.

But you need to decide for yourself.

Cause you can't like put 2 mini toggles both on neck and bridge. ;)

Keep 5 way. Add some mini toggle switch for on/off to get neck + bridge ....
Easiest way, keep 5 way, add mini toggle.

Not sure which one - there are multiple types of it, but it can be done.
Wiring noob myself also. But I've seen some people did it in past.

41
I'm not sure if there is a way to get neck + bridge as 3rd position, on regular 5 way so ....
I'm not sure if that's possible.

Get regular 5 way, and on/off for neck/bridge.

Or 3 way, with on/off for middle SC.

Depends on your needs and wants in terms of middle SC sound only. ;)

Edit:

Ideal would be just keep 5 way, and turn middle SC in 3rd, on neck + bridge. And keep the rest.
But I'm not sure if that can be done. I'm like wiring noob so .....

42
I would do that. Replace 5 way with 3 way, and middle SC on off/on mini toggle.

That free-way is looking like Les Paul switch, and if you have like blade version in original guitar, it would look wierd.

Jaguar way is too complicated to switch in between positions.

I would go with 3 way blade, and middle off/on. I would lose middle SC only position , but ......

Or another solution.

Keep 5 way.

And just add neck/bridge on off/on mini toggle. That way you could have like all 3, and neck + bridge, and still keep middle SC only.

U have options. Depends on needs and wants.

43
Free Way Switch, or 6 way switch from Stewmac.

Or 3 way classic for humbuckers.
And middle single coil on on/off mini switch.

I think there is no 3rd option.
There is actually, like Jaguar, all 3 pickups on on/off, but that is too complicated. ;)

Music Man Luke 3 HSS.
Charvel Guthrie Govan.
Ibanez TQM 1.

I would for sure try all of this 3. ;)

Just to give you one usefull hint or idea also.
One of my internet gear buddies is using this setup:
Super Distortion bridge, Fast Track 1 middle, Chopper neck.
It did work out for him pretty well. ;)
That's his main guitar and he is pretty much giging it all the time.
He is extremly happy with that setup so .....
