Why do the high e (1st) strings always break first?

Recently I noticed that when I worked on a guitar and loosened and retuned, all plain strings developed kinks near the tuning posts. Since the kinks appeared to be of similar size (I do not have tools to measure that) the ratio of kink to diameter is in favor of the 2nd and 3rd strings compared to the 1st string, which would support my assumption above.
