The Pickup Place / Re: Recommendation for S-H guitar?

Agreed. Just did the vvhb2 in the neck of one of my hs super strats. By far the best stacked single I have used  that retains a great single coil tone, but keeps up with the med-hi output bucker in the bridge. Also sounds good with 500 k controls. This is now my go to neck single coil. Especially with a bridge humbucker.

Yes! And I couldn’t agree more. I can build one like Eddie did for under a grand. So why would I buy one for the cost of a car?

God. I don’t know. I have so many super strats of differing brands. I still have a soft spot for the one I have had since my freshman year in high school, my ‘89 Peavey Tracer Deluxe. Basically a bolt on version of the Vandenburg. Same pickups, same bridge (Kahler Spyder), same neck. The fact that it made it through my teenage gigging yrs. just cements it at the top of my heap.

I agree on the 250k volume. I have guitars that have 'buckers with 250k and some w 500k. Not terribly different. I am using a 500k with my vvhb2 though and love it in that guitar with that pot value. Go figure.

So I saw the NAMM info in this guitar and when I finally saw the price, I threw up in my mouth a little. AMS is listing $19000 for what is basically a parts caster shred stick. I thought to myself,”Who in God’s name are they marketing these to?” And then it hit me. The same people that will spend 50gs on a Dumble and brag about it on the gear page.

I saw a review on musicians friend when they released the Frankenstein replicas where a dentist bought one to hang on the wall in his waiting room. Yeah THAT’S not a waste of $25,000.

I wonder if I can cash in on this cow and make a 5150 replica out of my ‘85 Kramer Barretta and charge an astronomical sum for it. Maybe throw in one of those custom shop Duncan’s that Seymour says he wound for Eddie. ::)

You can’t go wrong with that combo.

My Big Apple Strat is the most versatile axe I have. Low to moderate output 2 bucker guitar with 5 way. Not much that can’t be played on that axe and it is by far my desert island guitar.

I owned a couple of Pacificas back in the day and had no complaints. I also have an old Yamaha 12 string acoustic that is a great guitar.

I agree. Just buy the pots and wire it. Easy and cheap.

Welcome!!!

I’ve also used steam on old gun stocks so if the damp rag doesn’t do the trick try steam. Glad you found out that old school wood workers repair. It works.

I just entered to win a set so i can sell them and get some more Heavy Blues 2s for my other strats.

Oh yeah - these days, with the gobbs of gain on tap with most any amp, I think lower output generally (not always) gives better articulation/tone etc….unless you need a certain amount of compression and a particular eq curve coming off the guitar.
I agree. This is why I use moderate output pups in most cases. That being said, I had an X2N in my MG70 Washburn back in the day and it was a BEAST!!! In the number two position combined with the middle single coil it sounded great clean. Through my old MP1 or Twin tube preamp in high gain, it was lethal, but never inarticulate. At least not with the maple cap.

It's just a passing of the guard/torch if you will. At some point though, melody has to stick it's head in the mix. I LOVE the tones, and appreciate the musicianship. I even like heavy riffing, although my post doesn't seem like it. It just doesn't speak to me in the way it does others. The tones are to die for though. I love that fat mid heavy slab 'o' distortion. I am sure a lot of people said the same thing about my guitar heroes, so all is well. If you like it, fly that banner proudly. Play it with pride, and make people feel what you are.

Just because it isn't EXACTLY my cup of tea doesn't make it suck, or make it less legit. Much like 90s music it will probably grow on me.
