« on: March 02, 2015, 07:30:45 PM »
Well after my ltd died I finally found a bc rich mockingbird custom x 3 pro at GC for 400.00 ... still on sale by the way ... i am back. the little monster is a triple pup design  and from what i am told the pickups are not so good being bc rich bdsm stock pickups. now i have one ej custom for the bridge and it's  a no brainer to use one at the neck But now what do i  put in that center position ? looking for ideas :madness:

Hey!! Congrats on the find!

As for the middle, why not go for a PAF 36th or a bluesbucker? Actually I like the idea of a bluesbucker in the middle.

Yeah, go for the Bluesbucker! Either that or an Air Classic Bridge.

Slow down there!
- What music are we playing?
- What is the switching on there?
- HOW do you want to use the middle pup?

Middle pickup tone can be a seriously finicky issue.  It's a tough spot to drop into depending on how you want to use it.  A few cool examples:

a) Put a bucker sized P-90 in there.  Awesome different tone, adds cut/balls to either bridge-neck, sounds great on its own.
b) Put a same-as-neck model.  Give a neck-bridge tone that is a bit tighter/more subtle
c) Think about what will AUGMENT the eq of the bridge and / or neck.
- If the bridge is scooped miss, put something with a big mid spike in there to get a full even sound.
- If the bridge is fat highs, put a treble screamer in there to add slice
- If the bridge lacks bass, add a pup with some booty

You get the idea.  So what are you doing with this thing?
