Well, to be even more different, you could try three mini humbuckers too  8)

Plenty of good choices IMO/IME. Do you have a more specific tone you are after?

I thought of the HS-2 but was worried it was too bright.

The Virtual solo would be ok in the middle? See its intended as a bridge.

I wouldn't call the HS-2 bright, unless you compare it to maybe a HS3

I have a Tone Zone/HS2/Air Norton combo on one of my guitars, wired with a push pull coil split. Works great

The Pickup Place / Re: Stratocaster pickup question

One has to understand that the earlier amps when the Stratocaster first came out were quite rolled off on the top end. Furthermore, mics back then couldn't pick up high frequencies that well compared to modern mics

I think volume wise you could adjust the heights of each pickup to match. However, the bridge will have a definite different feel and overall higher gain/drive than the neck pickup. That really depends if you like it or not

update: think I've decided to go with a titan in the bridge for the powerful but clear sound. Also looking more into the humbucker from hell, I do generally use the neck pup for cleans, so it may be the right choice.
can the hfh dirty up and get a good lead sound? and would it pair well with a titan bridge?
Thanks

HFH does have a pretty good lead sound, depending on what you are looking for. I just like mine in the neck because it has a piano-like tone

The Pickup Place / Re: x2n in neck on telecaster
« on: August 11, 2016, 12:10:25 AM »
Never tried this particular combo but an X2N in the neck could possible overpower just about everything you could put in the bridge. I would't do it but then again I never thought a Tone Zone could work in the neck either...

It might work, but you need a very powerful bridge pickup, and you might also have to set the X2N in the neck far away from the strings

Evo 2 would be pretty similar to the EMG 81

Not too sure, but I guess you could try the Classic Lead 80?

Gear Closet / Re: Picking Picks (picks, not pickups)

Interesting. I always thought the brightest Dunlop picks would be the Ultexes and Tortexes. For me, the Delrins actually sounded more rounded, especially when I'm using the thicker variants.

In short, I use the Tortex for my all-round electric guitar applications. The Delrins are great if I want a rounder tone. Usually I would use the 2.0mm version on regular solid body electric guitar with wound strings to get a jazzier tone. For hollowbodies, the same Delrins are too rounded and "muted". I use the 2.0mm Big Stubbies  when playing hollowbodies.

I also use the Jazz III XLs occasionally. Just a different useable tone. Lastly, the celluloid picks are cool too. A vintage sounding pick for the lack of better words. Works great with acoustic too

The Dimarzio is aftermarket. Assuming the neck pickup is stock, it would be a Seymour Duncan '59 neck

Ok. Anyone who has A/Bed between the Gravity Storm bridge and the Breed bridge? Comtemplating between the two
