Just stumbled across this mod:

Has anybody tried it and got good experience with it or can recommend pickup models for it?
Should make a hum cancelling single coil sound, right?
Similar to a Tele Twangmaster Splitbucker
With Dimarzio pickups, it should be quite easy to try.
Does someone have a PAF Pro or something similar to find out how it sounds compared to stock?

Dead link - it only shows "404 - server not found".

Sorry, I corrected the link - now it should work!
-
Yes, now it works - thanks for that.
I tried this mod in a slightly altered way on the following pickups:
- Duncan Full Shred neck (SH-10n): removed the 3 screws on the neck side coil for the 4th, 5th and 6th strings to get single coil like low strings. I kept the screws on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd strings to keep them fat. This is a trick that RayBarbeeMusic posted here.
- TV Jones Classic neck: same thing as before, with the same result
- DiMarzio DLX Plus neck. removed all screws on the neck side coil. Since this dropped the output too much for me I put them back but screwed them in as far as they would go.
I am considering pulling the slugs on my DiMarzio Bluesbucker as I love the single coil tone it has but hate the hum.
Cheers Stephan

The Humbucker from Hell is an option, too

The bluesbucker is hum cancelling. Are you sure you don’t have it wired in coil split?

I think Darkblue’s saying they want to achieve a humcancelling version of the BB’s split sound. Considering it’s essentially a dummy coil design, I’d try the coils in parallel before removing three of the slugs.

Gotcha. That’s exactly what I did. I have it in the neck of my LP and much prefer the parallel/series setup to coil split.

I'm actually really really tempted to try this. Thanks for sharing!
