The Pickup Place / Re: Too boomy Evolution neck

Agree. It depends on pickup itself.

What I did to some neck humbuckers to de-muddy them was to remove either the screws under the 6th and 5th strings on the neck side coil or to remove the screws under the bass strings from the neck side coil. This has worked well for several pickups. However, if the pickup is covered I found the effect to be minimal and not enough.

This is a trick that was posted here by RayBarbeeMusic before.

Good luck,
Stephan
It seems like I have found solution.  Trick with screws really helped me. But I just did it with a little different way. Just lowered down pickup itself from strings and rised up all screws for a 2mm. It is not perfect what I want but far better than it was before.
Rising only neck side bobbin's crew or removing will causing pickup lost not only its lows and power and impact too.

Yeah. I noticed DiMarzio's tone chart not so accurate.
And plus for Super 2. It has similar poles like Evolutions :)

Isn't it too powerful?
DiMazrio charts say it is 400mV while Evo 2 375mV.

Hi!
While Evo 2 and Original Evolution my favorite bridge humbuckers I am not happy with Evolution neck. It is too boomy for me whatever guitar, strings, amp I used with it.
Is it possible to mod this pickup to reduce its lows or low mids. Magnet swap, pole screws or base plate change? I like modding. And modded all my instruments.

...and if it is impossible to brighten up this pickup what pickup I should use for neck? I've tried long time ago LiquiFire and Paf Joe. Liked them. Even LiquiFire was not bassy like evo neck. But these pickups were on basswood guitars. So I do not know will they work on my alder guitar and will they match good with Evo 2 on bridge. I play mostly old school heavy metal and neo-classical shredding. And wish neck humbucker sound with some single coil bite. More close to Malmsteen sound as  it possible with humbucker.

But first priority for me it is make Evolution neck more bright. Make it less boomy and do not loose power.

Evo 2 is my favorite bridge humbucker. Yes. It is a bit smoother and warmer version of original Evolution. A little bit more bass. But still very tight. It is tighter and brighter than TZ. Fuller but again tighter than JB. Works great on alder and more greater on basswood. Has better responsivity for lower tunings than original evo or TZ. And more versatile.
If you will put it on alder guiter I do not recomend using D'addario nickel strings. Better works with Ernie Ball. Or it will lose attack.

Try Norton for bridge and 36th paf for neck.

Definetely incector neck. 160-mV + really close to the strings (has low magnet pull) will give you nice ballance with evo 2. Have to say that injector works great with 500k pot. Remamber that you can split injector (it's south up) in paralell with north coil of evo 2 - great strat in between sound.

Errrr......if he thinks the Chopper (260mV) has too low output for him then the Injector (160mV) is hardly a good choice.

That said, I think all of the Dimarzio railbuckers are pretty dark. I'd love to have a hotter Satck Track with more top end. That would be the perfect SC size neck humbucker for shredding :)
Did tried Fast Track 2 in parallel mod?

My Virtual Solo has 200mV and it is still too quite for me. Need something more powefull. And my guitar with floyd rose. Can't make pickup too close to the strings.
By the way. Already made split with this pickup for cleans. Sound great.

Well I can make push-pull switch for parallel option for bright cleans.
Thanx!

Yeah. I saw this video. Thanks. Is Fast Track 2 not too bassy?

Hi!
I need help. Can't find proper single coil noiseless size neck pup. My guitar has alder body, 24 frets maple fretboard and floyd rose. Bridge pickup is Evo 2.
I need pup that has enough power to match with Evo 2.
Tried Virtual Solo and Chopper. Virtual solo is great pickup for bridge. For neck it is too dark, bassy (even it has a little bit single coil glassy chime) and not enough output to match with Evo 2. Chopper did not impressed me at all. This pickup do not have enough output and it is darker than I expected.  Even on DiMarzio's web page it shows 260 mV for Chopper and 200mV for Virtual Solo they have equal power. And chopper poor with harmonics. Too dull for me.

Candidates for choose: Pro Track or Air Norton S. Which one is more bright?
Or should I look for in different place like Seymour Duncan JB Jr.?

I mostly play heavy, thrash, speed metal glam/hair and neo-classic.
