I'm looking for 80's hard rock and hair metal tones. Will use a Friedman BE 100 and Bogner Ecstasy 20th Anniversary for amplification. Will the AT-1 fit the bill?

Might be a bit too warm, depending on the guitar itself. For 80's I'd suggest the Norton myself.
-
I have a Norton in a 25.5 scale bolt on mahogany body and find the tone kind of sterile.
-
Scale length might have an effect. Why not drop it in to test?

What about the Super Distortion?

80s Rock and Hair Metal?
Super 3
Vivian Cambell uses that in Les Pauls in Leppard and Last In Line (Dio tribute).

I'd second the suggestions of the Super Distortion or the Super 3. They're both excellent for that type of music. As DarthPhineas stated, Viv Cambell has been using the Super 3 in his LP's. I would add that Phil Collen has been using it in his Jacksons for a while, too.
If the Super 3 is too warm with its focus in the low mids, that's where I'd suggest the Super Distortion.

been using a Super 3 for a few years now, ever since I got my 1st Jackson PC1. I was totally prepared to not care for it, based on how so many people suggested it was dark. ended up giving it a longer test run, as I kept thinking about not wanting to risk messing up anything inside the sustainer electronics of the PC1...and the longer I left it, the more the Super 3 seemed to work. picked up another PC1 earlier this year, expecting to gut one and totally swap out the pups....the stock Super 3 is still in there.
reviewed the Super 3 back in March of this year...here: https://www.facebook.com/darthphineas/posts/760655914030393

In Mahogany with or without a cap.. I dig either the Super3 or the Timmons.. for years it was solely the Super3.. and the last few years I the Timmons just a shade livelier.

AT-1 or PAF Master(feels much more Hair Metal to me in a mid heavy amp).
