The Pickup Place / Re: 3 Humbucker wiring with vol and 3 way toggle?

You're right. Now I see that.

It seems that if I switched the output of the push/pull to the left lug of the volume pot it will work correctly meaning every pickup will be affected by the volume pot. I will not be able to use the middle pickup by itself by I'm ok with that.

I totally forgot about them. Thanks for posting that. To my untrained eye it appears that will work for my control layout.

The Pickup Place / 3 Humbucker wiring with vol and 3 way toggle?
« on: February 23, 2016, 02:25:45 PM »
I've got a guitar that I recently put EJ Customs into and I'm really digging them so I'm considering adding a 3rd one in the middle. I'd prefer to prefer to keep the control as simple as possible while allow for as many pickup combinations as possible (within reason).

The controls on the guitar right now and just 1 volume control and a LP style 3 way toggle. What I'd like to do is change the volume control to a push-pull that actives the middle humbucker but I've yet to find a wiring schematic for this on Dimarzios site or anywhere else.

I know I can contact Dimarzio to see if they can hook me up but I figured I'd try here first.

Thanks.

it might have gotten partially demagnetized during shipping.
oh really? I'd be very curious as to what conditions a modern high quality magnet could be subjected to that would degauss it.

I've owned HFHs in the past and have a EJ Custom neck in a guitar right now. Neither sounds like a single cool but the EJ is twangier.

FWIW I bought an HSS set for a guitars and went with a 36th, (2) Area 67s and I'm going to use a 250k volume pot with no tone control. Haven't installed them yet though because the guitar is out for refinishing.

For a set of 36th PAFs I'd definitely go with an Area 67 in the middle. You definitely get lots of Strat quack in 2 and 4. If I had an HSH that's the setup I'd go with.

As for a pot I'd start with a 250 even though I use 500s with just the PAFs. If the 250 didn't work I'd use a 500 and wire in a 470k resistor for positions 2-4.

Also, I should have said that I was looking for something brighter and twangier than standard humbuckers when it came to the EJ Customs. I know they won't sound like single coils but I hope they will give me something in between PAFs and Area 67s that I like.

I had the HfH in an Ibanez PGM301 going through a Fractal Audio Axe FX Ultra feeding a pair of powered studio monitors. I wasn't the amp and i doubt it was the guitar. The HfH is bright but compared to something like an Area 67 it's nothing like a single coil to my ears.

I'm putting in the EJ Customs in a Charvel Tele because I wanted something more single-coil like without getting a new body.
Humbucker from Hell in the neck position would be strat like  8)
eh, I've tried an HfH in the neck and it wasn't right for me. Sure didn't sound like a Strat. Besides I'm not shooting for a Strat tone.

The Area 67 and PAF are tried and true for me so nothing new there. I've tried an Injector neck in the bridge and it works fine as a beefier Strat pickup. It was actually to replace a VV 54 Pro. The Injector bridge is the next step up for me because I want to stay in the "true" single coil design (no bar magnets).

I'm putting in the EJ Customs in a Charvel Tele because I wanted something more single-coil like without getting a new body.

I still want to try some Bluesbuckers but I need to pick a guitar for that.

....to wrap up some projects I've had sitting in my closet for the past few years. These pups are going to finally have homes.

The 36th and EJs are standard but all the single coils have flush magnets while the cream ones on the right have no flange for a TITE route Charvel style body.

Not an uncommon problem. Have you searched the net? Here, let me Google that for you.

If you're finding the Norton too bright then use a 250K volume pot.
