I use(d) 500k volume pot with the Chopper but I would first try it with the pots you have - if you like it you're done. If not, you can still swap.

Cheers, Stephan

probably making this choice harder than it needed to be. lol  you & jR are on the same page. gonna try it .

thanks.

Hi,
I use the Chopper T in a Tele with 250K Pots. Usually I roll off the tone a bit, because there is still plenty of treble with 250K pots. If you like it really bright, go for the 500K. If not, the 250K should be fine. Concerning polarity, I cannot tell you exactly, because I don't have any experience with Harmonic Design pickups. However, with a Tele it's so easy to remove the control plate and swap connections, that I would simply try it the way you expect it to be. If it turns out to be wrong, it's a matter of minutes to change it.
Hope that helps,
Jörg

thanks for your reply.

i'll stick with the 250k then, happily. as too bright in tele isn't all that appealing to my ears. lol

thanks again

The Pickup Place / Chopper T in tele bridge - 250k or 500k tone pot ?
« on: August 24, 2022, 11:34:53 PM »
fender tele with these pups:
Harmonic Design S-90 in neck position
Dimarzio Chopper T bridge position

dimarzio diagram calls for 500k tone pot but in my tele the pots are 250k V & T.

will this make much of an issue or should i need to put in a 500k tone pot?

also to verify, to keep the Chopper in phase with the single coil neck pickup i should make the Green wire hot and the Red wire ground versus other way around?

The Pickup Place / Re: Tele neck PU to compliment Chopper bridge

There are tons of companies that do high output Tele pickups.

I have a set of harmonic design vintage plus pickups.  They are louder than stock with a more full bottom end and mids, but never sound overwound.
It is definitely loud enough and ballsy enough for a chopper.

It is still the best neck tone I have or used.

SD makes the quarter pounder
Fralin does steel poles
Zhangbucker does some.
thank you for your reply. the Zhang's caught my attention. thx

Hi,

Most telecaster neck pickups are low output, twangy and clear. For bluesy and jazzy tones with these pickups you will need the tone control to help. Personally I prefer other pickup types to tele neck pickups such as strat pickups, firebird pickups or mini humbuckers. Unfortunately this almost always requires to modify the route.

DiMarzio only has the kind of tele pickups I described - the Twang King as traditional tele neck pickup and the Area T neck which is humcancelling. They do not make any hotter tele neck models as far as I know. Maybe Duncan Hot Rails?

Cheers Stephan
thank you for your input. i'll check out SD too.
apologies for delay in reply, got carried away with some home issues.

The Pickup Place / Tele neck PU to compliment Chopper bridge

i have a 2015 American Standard Tele. single neck PU, Reilander, and SD Pearly Gate single humbucker.  i tried to like the Pearly Gate but it's not happening. so i want to replace it with the DiMarzio Chopper T in bridge. i figure i might as well replace the neck too.

i don't want a very twangy neck pu though. i like the Tele neck to lean more to an agressive warm type tone. this guitar usually plays bluesy stuff, power chord types. but i do try my hand at 3 note/shell voicings attempting to sound a little jazzy.

with that written, can i get a few neck PU recommendations to compliment the Chopper T pls.
