I know. It's like the kind of stuff they play on the ID channel. Real life true crime in real time. I have been checking on him every day. We are all trying to get him to leave Crossville. The town's too small. It's too easy to find someone. Everyone knows everyone. And truthfully, if he gets the house, he will still have to live life with his head on a swivel (she agreed to sign the divorce papers-I know it just gets more and more surreal-filing for divorce from your fatally ill wife because she is trying to kill you or have you killed). Even Knoxville would be a good idea for a move because even though it is small for a big city, it's big enough to get lost in.

It's just a bizarre set of circumstances. I love my wife dearly, but sick or not, it would have only taken the positive blood test for poisons for me put her in my rear view mirror.

" I think they were for Robbin Crosby from Ratt"

That was some time ago.

The Pickup Place / Re: Single between a Super Distortion and a PAF Pro

Some people use a very hot single coil and lower it down to give some space to pick.  The Vai single coil models could work too, since they are designed for HSH wiring.
Hear Hear! Good suggestion. Didn't even think about those at all.

the same model DiMarzio Norton I have in another Les Paul sounds like angels singing.

I doubt it is as much a factor of the pickup as much as it is a factor of the guitars. Wood is going to be WAY more inconsistent than the manufacturing tolerances most computer aided equipment is going to be able to hold. Different guitars? Wood. Same guitar? Manufacturing tolerance of pickup manufacturer. Now if we were talking about vintage pickups, I would probably go the opposite in my opinion.

Because that’s a marketing gimmick.

Agreed. I have used both brands at one time or another. I still see posts where people claim that the J.B. wound by "M.J." is SOOOOOOO much better than the standard J.B. Having used J.B.s on and off for some time, and accidentally getting one that actually was wound by her, I can tell you that the difference is ZILCH, as in ZERO, as in NADA. Aside from manufacturing tolerances from one pickup to the next, there is nothing significant about an "MJ wound" JB that makes it any better than any other. It is part marketing scheme as well as internet myth that somehow MJ winds her pickups, which would be to some sort of spec put forth my Seymour, or another designer, would sound any different than one wound by someone else in that factory.

I can confirm that as a former HS-3 user. That is exactly why I dig the VVHB2 so much. Full on, it reminds me of the HS-3 split.

You are absolutely right on the money with that statement.

Wow. I find the Norton anything BUT dark. I would tend to agree in that maybe the pots being 300k might have something to do with that. I would be willing to bet that going to 500k pots would brighten things right up since that is what that value pot is recommended.

Have you considered the DP409 (Heavy Blues 2)? It works nice with 500k pots, has enough output to keep up with humbuckers, and has a LOT of character. Think of it as a noiseless, hotter, version of a Texas Special with more umph.

One of my former singers who will remain nameless for this dropped a bomb on me a couple of weeks ago that just ended up with me thinking to myself, "You only hear about this stuff on television, or read about it in the papers."

He has been married for around 25 yrs. In that twenty five years his wife has been sick twice with cancer. She had only been cancer free for five yrs when she became ill again in 2015. So for the last 6 yrs he has been taking her to very experimental treatment, etc., at a VERY great expense. In that time, he complains to me that he is not feeling so good. He describes having bad muscle and joint aches, a foggy mind, weakness, random nausea and a whole host of other symptoms. At times when I talk to him it is like he's gotten hold of some very good weed which is COMPLETELY uncharacteristic of him as he is a retired police officer. So I am keeping contact with him just trying to keep his spirits up, etc., while they try and find out what is now wrong with him.

This goes on for almost the entire 6 yrs until a couple of weeks ago. He had been sounding a little better each time I had talked to him. But this time, he sounded like his old self. The difference? He tells me he has been going to a holistic healer to be detoxified and that he feel slike a new man. He then asks if I am sitting down for what he has to tell me next. So what does he say? It seems that after a whole lot of time has passed and there is no improvment in his health, his officer buddies take him to the hospital and have a test done for poisons. What they get back is chilling. He had very high amounts of ethylene glycol in his system (yep. car antifreeze). His wife's daughter, sister in law, and borther in law had been bringing over meals they had prepared to help "take off some of the burden of taking care of his wife". So he confronts his wife. It's even more chilling what she says. She tells him," Well yeah, I had them taint you food. I want my daughter (his stepdaughter) to have the house when I die. I want her to have it, not you. Besides, why would you want to live once I am gone?" Yeah. So the police officers go to the D.A. with this info. He tells them he has no idea who to prosecute since so many people are involved (Trust me on this one. The D.A. in Crossville, TN is as sorry as they come. So much so that my former singer and his friends, all officers, wrote me in on election day).

He is now in the proceedings of a divorce. Our former pedal steel player, an officer in a neighboring town has all of the test results, footage of them continuing to tamper with his food that he recorded, as well as footage of his step daughter pedaling his wife's pain pills out of her house, with a order to give it to the TBI should ANYTHING happen to him between now and the finalization of the divorce.

So after 25 yrs of marriage and taking care of her twice, the thanks he gets is that her and her immediate family try to kill him. You can't make this crap up. I know the only musical connection is that this is happening to my former singer, but I just thought, "never in a million years" and had to share it. I am still picking my jaw up from the floor. I just talked to him an hour ago. It gets even more bizarre. This is broad strokes.

The mini bar (off topic & misc) / Re: Agents

Funny you mentioned film because I just contacted a couple of licensing agencies for film. I also have went on a email campaign with some of the film/production companies to see who they actually use to get said music (I have found out the hard way that just because you see an article claiming that this service or that service is great doesn't necessarily make it so). Hopefully I can get some traction with this and do SOMETHING music related to earn a living and get away from what I am HAVING to do now to make ends meet. Time will tell, but at least I am doing something to try and move it forward.

It's funny that we're all talking about the high e and now the g strings breaking. This weekend, I broke my first D. Just went ahead and replaced the whole set.

13
Wow. You're right. It is always the G that breaks first on my acoustic. Tension?

The mini bar (off topic & misc) / Agents

So after a discussion with my coworkers and then a discussion with my wife maybe 10 minutes later, I took what was told me as a sign.

With that being said, I have decided to take a much more active approach and get out of the rat race of the 9-5 and get back in the business.

My big question is for any of you who are using an agent. Who are you using? Are they doing it for you? If not, who do you know that is happy with who they are using and why?

Anyhow, any suggestions or recommendations would be great. I am getting the press kit together this weekend so that's covered. And I know what kind of cut to expect and what to pass on from previous experience.

It has always seemed to be the first one to go on all of mine as well. It was especially true when I was in high school and would practice/play for hours on end. I would always buy a pack and three extra high E strings when I was at the music store.
