worth checking out. don't forget, 80s rock guitarist used to back the volume off to help with the cleans, so this might help 8)

The Pickup Place / Re: DiMarzio for my Ibanez RG550

hi

it really depends on what style of music you play. you'd find that the dimarzio pickups are quite powerful. high output don't always mean better sounding pickups. for example, the FRED (joe satriani) pickups are medium output, but with the right overdrive pedal or distortion pedal still sounds heavy. conversely i've played evoultions through a mesa boogie on full gain and sounded heavy.

going back to your questions, i personally have these in my ibanez guitars:

tone zone (b) air norton (N)

breed (B) breed (N) matching set

evolution (1st gen) in bridge and neck

super 3 in jackson PC1 bridge

super distortion in BC rich bridge

good luck!

EVO set or the Breed set.  Breeds are amazing pickups! i've got them in an ibanez 550. it also depends on what style of music you are looking to play. but if you are starting off, i'd look at the medium powered pickups as you'd get a blend of power and cleans. you will find that any dimarzio pickups will be an improvement to the current pickups. while you are in there, assess the wiring and volume pots.

if you are happy that you can get your desired gain out of your amp, you can look at the medium output pickups. because they are medium power, they won't get too muddy with all the gain.  i've played an ibanez with an EVO in the bridge and it was awesome! also you'd be able to get a decent clean sound out them if you needed to. i've got a super 3 in my Jackson PC-1 and that is absolutley nuts!!

don't forget the classic X2N!

The Pickup Place / help me choose PuPs for a project strat
« on: January 16, 2016, 02:30:18 PM »
hi all,

i have a fender mexican strat. im going to change the stock pickups.

here is the list of dimarzio pickups i already have but need help in deciding how to combine them.

guitar is alder body, maple neck, 21 frets

pickups i have are:

DP401 VV 2.1

DP403 VV Heavy Blues

DP416 VV area 61 x 2

DP420 Virtual solo

this is my 3rd strat so i want it to sound different to my others. i want vintage tone so it sounds like a strat with all the qualities that make it a strat. think jimi hendrix and SRV

i have no experience with these pickups so your experience will help

further more, the dimarzio website recommends 250k vol pots, but user feedback are recommending 500k pots. whats your views?

many thanks in advance
