Title: Non F spaced with a Floyd?
Post by: cragginshred on December 05, 2019, 12:54:41 PM
I got another AT-1 and it does not say F-spaced on the box or on the invoice -guessing there are 2 versions?? I'm assuming I got a version meant for a LP.

My question is how off with the pole pieces be used with a Floyd equipped guitar? Or I will rephrase this in a blind A/B test could you tell the difference of guitar A) with a Floyd and non F spaced and guitar B) with an F spaced and by how much?

Yes, in the strictest of technical terms there is a difference. However......

Difference is insignificant.

More of a marketing trick pups companies use to play on the OCD nature of most guitar players.

The strings won't be aligned perfectly, but most of the time I can't hear a difference. I have a couple of regular spaced Dimarzios where I'm supposed to have an F-spaced.

The low E is rarely a problem as it has so much mass that it does not matter if the polepiece is a bit off. The high e can be more problematic but in almost all cases I was able to adjust by raising the polepiece under this string and/or lower the other polepieces.
