The Pickup Place / Mahogany body: EVO 2 vs Evolution
« on: February 23, 2018, 07:35:56 PM »
Hey guys.  Do you think the EVO 2 is too warm / does not have enough treble for a mahogany body / wenge & ebony neck (kinda similar to mahogany + maple & rosewood)?

I like the cut to be pretty high in the EQ spectrum considering all the layers that I record.  A JB's cut is too low - its more upper-mids with smooth highs.  Sounds great for 1-2 guitar situations but not enough cut for 2-3 guitars + keys + strings/etc.

A good example of high end cut would be the Duncan Distortion but I do not like its general scratchy tone.  Plus, I prefer Dimarzio's vocal half-cocked wah tone for leads.

So I was thinking either EVO 2 or Evolution.  What are your guys thoughts?  Any experiences?  Is the EVO 2 bright enough in the highs or is it rather chopped / rolled off / smooth?

The Pickup Place / Dominion in E-standard?
« on: July 22, 2016, 04:52:29 PM »
Love the Dominion pickup.  It has nice cut, bite, yet its slightly fat & muscular (without being tubular fluid flutey mess; I like my tone relatively dry).  Not mushy or nasally like the JB either.

I regret selling the one that I had but such is the life of a guitarist. Anyway, I know it sounds awesome in C-standard in Mahogany but how about E-standard in a Strat?

Too bright for E-standard in a Strat?

Hello, long time reader and seldom poster.

I have an Ibanez RG in C standard. What do you guys recommend for a neck pickup for leads? It'll be for metal music though a massive variety.

I like a fluid tone but it doesn't necessarily have to be warm, round, or smooth.  In fact, I prefer aggression and cut.  Dynamic to picking technique is a plus. At least decent at harmonics but "great at harmonics" is preferred. Tight bass is a must, + subdued bass even better, since I play in C Standard.

I have a Dominion in the bridge which is great for rhythm and decent for leads, but I'd like something more fluid, maybe a little less bright (hence neck position), and if possible, great at harmonics. I have not tried the neck version.

Any suggestions?
