The Pickup Place / Transition Bridge
« on: November 05, 2021, 02:56:33 PM »
I am diggin the transition bridge in the HSS Luke III I picked up.

I know it's a ceramic mag, is it a standard size or a thick ceramic?

It's got a good amount of power.

I've been searching and I'm not having any luck.  I remember seeing it.  Wish I would have downloaded it.  Oh Well......Don't want Larry coming after me just because I'm curious!

The Pickup Place / D-Activator X wire gauge
« on: October 22, 2020, 11:16:54 AM »
Does anyone know what gauge of wire the D-x is wound with?  42awg?  43awg?  Since blade bobbins are bigger i'm guess its one of those two.  Judging by the output I'm thinking 42awg.  43awg would be my guess on standard bobbins at 14.5k.  I bought a broken used one that needs a rewind.

Any thoughts?

Does anyone have the DCR for each coil of the Evolution?  Overall is everywhere.

Thank you!

I remember seeing some posts with number of turns/winds and type of wire per a bobbin on some of the more popular Dimarzio pickups.  Does anyone have that info handy?  I would love to look it over.

Thanks!

The DP277 is the liquifire.

That should be a great setup.  I have a friend who uses the  Super D in the bridge and a Fred in the neck in his les pauls exclusively.

I really dig the evolution neck.

Again, I have to recommend the Evo set.  I love it more everytime I pick up my guitar.  Doesn't sound shrill, and is well balanced so it makes it a great change up from the tone zone.

I really am digging the original Evo that I but in my JP6.  The super D is always a good choice.

Go with the Super Distortion.  It will do the doom stuff.  Wino used to use em before all the doom bands switched to Lace pickups

Looking at the specs this could be a major departure from the standard dimarzio.  Nickle/silver baseplate, with the eq specs I would imagine the coils are balanced in DCR reading.  More difference in coil reading = opens up more perceived highs.

Looking forward to hearing reviews on these.

Have you tried messing with the pickup height extensively? The Tone Zone is known to have huge amounts of variation in tone with pickup height adjustments. Not trying to steer you away from getting a shiny new pickup but if a few turns of a couple screws can save you the trouble of soldering and money, it's worth a shot!

I have messed with the height, pole pieces, and even did the half air mod.  That helped the most but it's not what I'm looking for with this guitar.

The Pickup Place / Re: The Tone Zone vs Air Zone (bridge)

I had a virtual PAF in my JP6 - factory installed.  IF you like the tone of the Virtual PAF the Tone Zone is not the way to go.  I replaced mine with a tone zone and it's getting replaced.

I would say look at the Norton or the Breed neck as the Tone zone will sound nothing like your current pickups.
