SOS! Cracked magnet!
« on: April 13, 2017, 05:41:21 PM »
Guys! Help!
I opened DiMarzio Evolution neck's base plate and found magnet bar cracked into 2 pieces.
I guess overheating baseplate with soldering iron caused this while I tried to fix destroyed threads to soldering screw nuts.
Now I want to buy a new magnet via eBay. But do not want ceramic. Want to try some  alnico. Will alnico 4 be good or alnoco 2???? Which magnet will smooth highs and reduse bass?

P.S. sorry for my lack of English knowledge.

Magnets are affordable enough that it should not be a problem to buy a selection and try them out.

Which country are you in?

I can refer you to a guy for magnets in EU, if that's less hassle than the alternatives.

Hi,

I usually get mine from addiction-fx. If you go the alnico 5 route, the pickup will be similar sounding to PAF Pro. A2 in evo neck will thin out the bottom end and add even more mids and smooth the highs, which is probably the closest you are looking for.

As DarthPhineas suggested, though, mags are cheap and you can get couple of them and try them out, maybe you'll end up liking completely other one at the end.
