Everything you wanted to know about .... / Re: The Norton
« on: March 12, 2010, 02:58:21 AM »
I was looking through sound clips in this thread, and I noticed that there were no clips of what IMO the Norton does best, a medium gain, lead sound....so I set about fixing that.

The clip is a Norton, in the bridge of a 2004 Gibson Les Paul standard, into Guitar Rig 3.  I used the Brian May Lead patch, with the delay turned down just a bit, to try and preserve the sound of the pickup.

I have to say, just for my ego, that I had a bit of trouble with latency, so there are a few more mistakes than I would like, but regardless of how good or bad my playing is, I do think the clip does a pretty good job of showing what this pickup sounds like, under this kind of application.

I should not that in the middle I briefly switched to the PAF Pro in the neck, just to give an idea of the balance between the pickups.
Hope you enjoy!

Good thread people. In the democratic spirirt, it is not so much as who is right or wrong, as the free exchange of ideas that is important. By the way...you are wrong!!  ;D

I don't know how much of a premium you would fetch for the older dimarzios. No idea if there's anything special about them. I mean I'd assume that a Super Distortion from the 70's would sound the same as a Super Distortion that was just freshly wound by dimarzio.

Well, it wouldnt sound the same, that much I'm sure of. Every pickup undergoes changes with aging, and mostly for the better in regard to vintage PAF's..

The Pickup Place / Vintage Dimarzio PAF Pickup
« on: February 07, 2010, 04:09:49 PM »
As far as I know, these pickups ar very good, but not widely regarded  to be anything extra ordinarilay  special ?
Pity it is, because the 70's models  by now may be aged to perfection, just like real vintage Gibson PAF's.
I do know the Old Dimarzios seem to finally be going for a premium, including the older Super D's and PAF's.
I do happen to have a set socked away of the earliest Super D and an early Dimarzio PAF aiting for the right guitar one day, so I'm wondering if anyone mught have any input on this?

in the folowing order;
Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Beck, Townshend,
Van Halen was always a wanker compared to them. Not to diminish his skill at all, but at the end of the day he doesnt make the top 5.

Decline. 36th Annv.  supercedes it IMHO.
Hopefully it can be orderd, but i don;lt see any real reason for the company to go in retrograde  for the whim of 6 or 8 people.
