Title: Single coil pickup advice
Post by: DMannDann on February 20, 2016, 06:40:30 PM
Hi all, kind of new here. Not sure if this is the right spot for this question. I am converting an Ibanez RG from HSH to 2 single coils. I have always used humbuckers but I am looking to get a classic glassy bell like clean old Fender type tone. Not overly concerned with how they'd sound distorted but if I can find something that is also good with a bit of overdrive that would be a plus. I prefer a rail type for the middle position because I I have a deep pick attack and my pick sometimes hits the pole pieces and messes me up. Does anyone have single coil suggestions? Thank you - Dann

Not a rail type, but a Dimarzio HS-2, wired for just the top coil, will give you one of the best glassy old Fender sounds around. I have one in the middle position of my HSH Tele. Superb.
Eric Johnson used to use them wired this way. Reads about 8.0k, plenty of output. You can often pick them up cheap secondhand.
