I was looking at the Mojotone '59 Clone (which has gotten rave reviews), but would really like to give these a listen.

Funny how the new PAF 59s are closer in output to the (much older) Air Classics.

The Pickup Place / Re: A4 in a 36th Bridge or Norton

Thanks Ray

It's going it in an Ibanez Artstar AS120; if it works out, I'll do the same in a Gibson Explorer.

The Pickup Place / A4 in a 36th Bridge or Norton
« on: August 30, 2016, 01:01:14 PM »
Anybody swapped out their A5 for an A4 in the 36th Bridge (or regular DP103), or a Norton?

Thinking about this for one of my 36th sets for a little different EQ, more vintage feel. Just wondering if it would be a straight-up swap, or if any additional changes need to be made.

Any comments?

The Pickup Place / Transition set: covers or no covers?
« on: March 09, 2016, 02:29:03 PM »
Looking at getting a set of Transitions for my Ibanez AR700 (Artist shape, thinner body with maple cap that makes up almost 1/2 of the body). It can stand something a little bass-heavy since the body is so thin and can be bright with the maple top.

Is there much of a difference with the Transitions open vs having covers?

I had the Norton in my (thicker) AR300, and that was not lacking in treble, by any means.

It will more than likely be brighter in the thinner-bodied AR700. Leaning heavily toward the Transitions at this point.

I've got an Ibanez Artist AR700 (MIJ), which has a thinner body like the newer MIC Artists. The maple top takes up about 1/2 of the body depth, making it brighter (and less bass) than my AR300.
I've got a Norton lying around, but that might be too bright/mid-rangey for it.

I'm looking for a moderately hot set for this axe, to serve as more of a hotter-than-vintage guitar.
Don't want over-the-top metal, but not vintage either; already have 36th sets in two other guitars.

Considering these:
AT-1 bridge / 36th neck
Transition bridge / neck
Transition bridge / Air Zone neck

Anything else I should consider?

Everything you wanted to know about .... / Re: PAF MASTER SET REVIEW

Bumping this one.
Would you say the PAF 36th Bridge and the Master Neck would be a good pairing?

Interesting you say the Master has more 'bite' than the 36th as I've always heard the opinion that the 36th bridge was too bright.
