Everything you wanted to know about .... / The Cruiser Bridge Model
« on: June 14, 2009, 11:06:43 PM »
I'm typically not a huge fan of single coils but I do happen to have an ESP Vintage Plus Strat with two singles and a humbucker and could never get used to the tone from the singles. That being said I was actually going to swap out the neck pickup for a DiMarzio mini humbucker like an Air Norton S for a tone I'm more familiar with and very happy with, BUT I just happened to have a Cruiser Bridge pickup laying around for some time that I bought off someone a while ago and thought.. hey I might as well give it a try.

It is honestly one of the best sounding neck pickups a guy like me could ask for. I can see why Andy Timmons likes the Cruiser so much now. Output wise it's fairly low but unlike most strat pickups it doesn't sound thin to my ears and this is coming from someone who's used to playing on fairly fat sounding humbuckers in the neck position. It's got all the clarity and sparkle one could expect from a true single coil but just a bit more umph to it.

The clean tones are fantastic with this and handles distortion very well. A mild distortion yields a great blues/rock lead tone and also produces fantastic shred tones if you crank up the gain. I'm honestly really surprised how great this pickup is and may have found a new favourite neck pickup. Too bad the one I had lying around was black. I wish they did this in white with chrome blades. (ok, I know, I can just get white covers, but the blades are still black)

Everything you wanted to know about .... / READ: ABOUT THIS SECTION
« on: May 21, 2009, 01:15:04 AM »
Hello and welcome :)

This section is an open forum for members to contribute whatever they know about a particular favourite pickup. While there are plenty of sites (actually just one or two) that offer reviews of a particular pickup, this section was created so that you can educate the rest of us on what you know about a particular pickup you have plenty of experience with. Feel free to include any sound clips or video demonstrations you may have of yourself demo'ing the said pickup. (NOTE: Sound clips and Youtube videos linked here are a GREAT way to promote yourself and your band! Just don't abuse it!).

I know this section will be quite small at first with just a handful of pickups, but with your help and experience we can hopefully one day as a community, compile info on all the DiMarzio's out there! So if a thread hasn't been started about a pickup you want to put your input into, feel free to start one ;)

Best Regards,

The Pickup Place / FYI: ISCV2 Dimarzio Evolution Single
« on: March 31, 2008, 12:02:59 AM »
Seeing that DiMarzio doesn't have any information posted anywhere about the Evolution/Jem Single coil pickup, here's some info on it for everyone to reference. Just for the record, although the pickup *WAS* initially supposed to be an OEM pickup made for Ibanez for the Jem and PGM models(yes the Ibanez PGM models did feature a Jem single coil in the middle), the pickup is actually available for order but it's just not listed on the DiMarzio site for some reason. Here's the specs that I could dig up on it

Model # ISCV2 (**NOT DP1116 which is the HS-2**)
DC Resistance: 12.54k
Output: 160mv
Magnet: Alnico 5

*note: this pickup is generally RWRP meaning it's wound backwards and will give you the hum-cancelling effect with your humbuckers if you have an HSH guitar with coil splits in positions 2 and 4*

Available in black or white covers (and possibly any other standard single coil cover Dimarzio has for sale).

The poles on these do not come in gold or any other fancy colour other than the nickel/chrome that the poles are.

Previously when the ISCV2 was NOT available for sale, the recommended pickup to use to achieve a similar tone was the HS-2 wired in single coil mode. It should also be noted that the Ibanez Jem has featured two different middle pickups pairing up with the Dimarzio Evolution humbuckers, the Jem single coil and more recently the Evolution single coil. I'm almost 100% sure it's the same pickup with a different name as the name "Jem" is an Ibanez trademark and Evolution isn't(likely the reason why it was unavailable until they changed the name to evolution middle). Maybe someone here can contact Dimarzio to see if they're in fact the same pickup and let us know.

Regards,

Budd
