Hi, I've got a custom shop Charvel coming in a few months. I was thinking of putting a DiMarzio in the bridge. I want a hot pickup that will do 80s style metal, but will still clean up for clean passages.  Any recommendations?  Thanks in advance.

I second the Air Zone. Splits beautifully too.

Plenty of good choices IMO/IME. Do you have a more specific tone you are after?

AT-1 or Norton.

I have a Norton in my Charvel So-Cal. Love it. AT-1 adds a bit more low-end. Sounds nice clean as well.
In use: 13x DiMarzio (7 gtrs), 7x Duncan (3 gtrs).
Got preference? ;)

PAF Pro anyone?

It's a custom Charvel right? Could you just ask them to install it to save you the trouble?

I talked to the dealer and Charvel is going to install it.

How you compare them?

FRED
Evolution
Breed

worth checking out. don't forget, 80s rock guitarist used to back the volume off to help with the cleans, so this might help 8)

The super distortion is thee classic 80s pickup and sounds good clean and split. I hear good things about the air zone as well.
