The Pickup Place / Re: Illuminator 7 replacement
« on: May 23, 2018, 09:11:48 AM »
Thanks budd! Looking to replace both, what I didn't like with the illuminator7 is it has too much midrange and the highs are too round. Sounds thinner less lively compared to its 6 string version. I also find it difficult to control its loudness, there's a huge difference in the volume when picking too soft and picking hard.

I was thinking of Blaze or CrunchLab for the bridge and PAF7. How does the ionizer compare to illuminator and crunchlab? how does the ionizer neck compare to paf7?

The Pickup Place / Illuminator 7 replacement
« on: May 22, 2018, 05:32:59 PM »
Please suggest a new pickup set I can try. My Ibanez RG927QMZ currently have DiMarzio illuminators in it. I like the distorted sound but it doesn't do cleans very well for my taste. The highs and pick attack are too rounded.

I'd like to have something that does better on cleans, thick/warm but not too rounded highs with more bite and good sustain/harmonics. (If such pickup exists.)

I play mostly instrumental stuff and play through a variety of amps depending on the venue. I sent this to dimarzio support but I'd liek to hear your suggestions! Thanks!

The Pickup Place / Re: Dual resonance, more noise?

Also depends on the pickup design itself. I have the Steve's Special which as a big coil offset and its not noisy.

Thanks! I'm from the Philippines unfortunately we don't have an exchange policy. I'll go ahead and get the paf36th and report back.

The Pickup Place / PAF 36th Anniversary neck output

Noob question, I'm planning to get a PAF 36th dp103 + illuminator bridge for my Ibanez RG. Volume-wise do you think the paf3th neck will pair well with the illuminator bridge? Will there be any noticeable volume drop? I have tried using an HFH + Evo combo in the past, and the humbucker fromhell (226 mV output) pairs well with the hotter Evo bridge.

Thank you all!!!

The Pickup Place / Re: Too boomy Evolution neck

That was my problem when I first got the evo neck. Too boomy and a bit muddy sometimes. I replaced it with hfh that solved the boomy problem, however it lacks mids and body. Now I'm happy with my paf joe.

Looks like you need a super 2 or a dimarzio IBZ neck.

It sounds good enough for me. I have it in the middle of my strat with injector neck and fast track 2 in the bridge. But it depends on what you're after.

Evo 2 is one step up from Norton. It has similar tone with a little more output and scream. Both have tight low end, a lot of mids and definition.

Thanks I'll try that.

The Pickup Place / Re: Tone Zone S or Injector - Bridge in a strat.
« on: January 24, 2017, 01:41:12 PM »

I don't have a tone zone S but the injector sounds thin compared to fast track 2.

What position do you have the injector in? I would like to keep somewhat a strat sound..

I had it in the bridge. Sounds very straty. More body than a regular strat pickup but still has that sharp pick attack. I didn't like it but thats just me.

I can believe that. Is the Fast Track 2 in the bridge? What are you using neck/middle? What music do you play?

instrumental rock mostly. I have injector neck and vv heavy blues 2 in the middle and FS2 in the bridge with series/parallel sw. wired to a 5 way pickup selector, No tone control just 500K volume pot. Solid and versatile setup and I'm happy with it.

I got the idea of using vv heavy blues 2 in the middle upon hearing the sound samples from here: http://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/strat/hum-canceling-strat/virtual-vintage-heavy-blues-2

As the title says. I just picked up a strat style guitar with the typical SSS configuration and 5 way switch.

I play classic rock to old school medal. My original thought with this axe was an HSS using a single coil size humbucker in the bridge. Then I saw the Gilbert Injector set. Which got me thinking....  Either way I may still go with 67 middle, injector neck.

How does the Injector compare with the Tone Zone S? Or, what are the pros and cons of one vs the other for what I want to use them for? I'm open to other suggestions too.

The Pickup Place / Norton possible replacement

Hey guys, I am new here. this is my first post and sorry for my english.

I have a Norton bridge pickup. Its almost perfect but I wished it had a "little more" output, scream and crunch. Not sure if a pickup like that exists but if it does or anything close to it let me know.

Thanks!
