VHPAF and VPAF in Epiphone dot?
« on: March 04, 2016, 09:04:20 PM »
I picked up really nice Epi dot deluxe two weeks ago, its a Korean model with 57 epi pups, it sounds pretty good even with the stock pups but since I have a stash of VHPAFS and VPAFS I thought maybe a pickup change could make it sound even better. Anyone try these in a dot? My VHPAFS F spaced read a bit over 10k which will fit perfect in the bridge, I also have a couple F spaced VPaf bridge that read about 8.78. Changing pups the right way on these are a bitch (Ive done it on another one) or I can cheat and use the existing wires from the stockers, I am also going to install some duncan triple shot rings for switching options easier.
I also have a 36th an set and have some Dimarzio gold covers F spaced and reg spaced to match the gold hardware. What set should I install? also have some reg spaced VHPAF about 9.2 k. I am worried about too hot a pup in a semi hollowbody, I play pretty hard rock and it sounds pretty killer as it is, the stockers read 8.7k bridge and 7.9k neck. I know the DMZ will sound better.

The virtual pafs are great pickups.  I think they will be great for what you are looking for.

That should sound fantastic.  Anything anywhere in the classic PAF zone is just great overall in  oat 335 styles.  Obviously individual guitars can vary….

Still out to be great.  I've been rocking a Dot Studio with a Duncan Jazz/JB and it isn't too hot.  Go for it.  Should be awesome.

Done deal, VHPAF and VPAF added gold covers ad SD triple shot rings, sounds killer now.

This thing is crazy insane, I have 38 guitars I have strats, teles, Les Pauls, PRS, Epiphones, Hofner. It sounds better than my prized 76 Gibby LP with maple fretboard which I installed Duncan WLH's in, its a 3k guitar and this thing sounds better. It is the  fattest, ballsiest crunchy and clear with massive sustain and harmonics. Now I see why Dave Grohl plays a semi hollow body. The duncan triple shot rings give me the series /parallel and choice of either coil split.........best 300.00 I have ever spent on a guitar. I am going to find another and put a Floyd rose on it. I'll have to post some clips when I get a chance.

Good tone is good tone.

If it feels good, and sounds good, it IS good.

That guitar looks absolutely beautiful. If it sounds only half as good it must be killing.

Have fun with that axe,
