The Pickup Place / VHPAF and VPAF in Epiphone dot?
« on: March 04, 2016, 09:04:20 PM »
I picked up really nice Epi dot deluxe two weeks ago, its a Korean model with 57 epi pups, it sounds pretty good even with the stock pups but since I have a stash of VHPAFS and VPAFS I thought maybe a pickup change could make it sound even better. Anyone try these in a dot? My VHPAFS F spaced read a bit over 10k which will fit perfect in the bridge, I also have a couple F spaced VPaf bridge that read about 8.78. Changing pups the right way on these are a bitch (Ive done it on another one) or I can cheat and use the existing wires from the stockers, I am also going to install some duncan triple shot rings for switching options easier.
I also have a 36th an set and have some Dimarzio gold covers F spaced and reg spaced to match the gold hardware. What set should I install? also have some reg spaced VHPAF about 9.2 k. I am worried about too hot a pup in a semi hollowbody, I play pretty hard rock and it sounds pretty killer as it is, the stockers read 8.7k bridge and 7.9k neck. I know the DMZ will sound better.

I have a 36th set I havent tried yet, once I found the VHPAF and VPAFs, they are one of the best pups I have used, they rave about them here and on the Duncan forum. Most say they sound better than the 36th's.

Or find a virtual hot paf dp214 and virtual paf neck, I play a lot of the same stuff at church including Lincoln Brewster, I have been buying them up when I find them they are just amazing pickups.
Another great combo is the AT-1 bridge and the EJ custom (bridge model) in the neck, I have a series/split/parallel switch connected to the at-1 also a treble bleed and a TBX tone control connected to both buckers. Parallel gives a similar tone as the virtual paf, splits well, series gives the extra oooomph. The EJ custom is nice and bright, turn down to 4-5 and it sounds like a single coil and it quacks killer with the middle single in pos 4. I'll be pulling some transitions out of my 76 Maple neck/fretboard Les Paul (too dark in that guitar) I'm going to try them in an ash body deluxe player H/H combo, I'll post results when done, VHPAF and VPAF are going in the Les Paul.

Yup I am stoked, put a set in my PRS Johnny Hiland, One of my HSH mahogany strats and thay sound fricking amazing, I am removing a transition set from my 76 Les Paul custom with a Maple neck/fretboar

d and got some gold pole peices and covers coming, the transitions are a bit dark in that guitar and I think the VHPAF and VPAF will awaken the beast, also yanking out EMG 81/85 out of my prs torero and installing a set of VHPAF and VPAF. This is one pickup that sounds great in just about any guitar you put them in, that is really rare to have a "fit all" pickup but the Vh and VPAF seem to sound great in anything I put them in.
They work with 250k,300k,500k pots. Amazing pickups, BRING THEM BACK LARRY!

It smokes and the stock pups were actually really good (toneriders) I have another one with rosewood neck and crimson red getting virtual hot PAF and virtual paf neck and that one sounded even better than this one with the stockers by a big margin.

It worked great, the EJ bridge in the neck is perfect, gets the quack in between tones just as they should be, the AT-1 perfect fit too with the mahogany body and maple neck, I also added a parallel/split/series switch to the At-1 also a tbx tone control that works on both neck and bridge and a 0.001 cap on the volume for a treble bleed. I could not be happier!

Im about ready to install some VHPAF and VPAF myself, on my strats I usually use either a 500k vol or 250k and TBX tone control.

I just picked up 5 virtual hot pafs and 3 dp 196 neck virtual PAFs in the last 2 weeks all brand new in the box except one..........woohoo!

for some reason  my maple neck Les paul needs more highs, it seems to be all low and mids with the transitions. I.m going to try it with the 500k first and see what it sounds like.

I have an 85 contemporary strat, I have a tone zone s, area 61 and 58 to install, what pot value is recomended for this combo? I usually run TBX tone controls and a basic 0.001uf cap for a treble bleed on my HSS/HSH strats, I dont want mud on the tonezone s but dont want ice pick on the areas, the area will have a series/split/parallel switch. I've never done it but I was thinking 250k pots and two TBX tone controls, I don't want to route this guitar, I have another one just like it and it has a super 3 and two D Allen JM rockin blues and a TBX and its my number 1 strat, it does everything well that one does not have the treble bleed but TBX is connected to bridge and neck and its amazing.

The Pickup Place / AT-1 and EJ in HSH strat

I have a couple Mahogany strats HSH,This one is mahogany with maple neck, I got an AT-1 for the bridge and got an EJ custom bridge model for the neck cause I think the output and less treble will match better with the AT-1, am I making the wrong choice in using the bridge in the neck?
