The Pickup Place / pickups for my esp E2 s2
« on: November 20, 2020, 02:56:20 PM »
I picked up an ESP e-2 s2 a couple days ago, they had custom DMZ pickups but 1st owner put in a JB/Jazz which sound crappy in this guitar, Its a basswood body, maple top, maple neck and OFR. I have a bunch DiMarzios in my parts bin, I do have a set of EBMM axis pickups which I think would be perfect fit considering the similar woods and floyd, also have a tone zone,36th set, VHpaf I can rob out of one of my other guitars, Vpaf's, super 3 and At-1 and EJ neck. I'm told the gravity storm is the closest to the custom Dimarzio's in the bridge but the originals had screws/slugs vs hex poles. What do you all think? Axis pups?

The Pickup Place / VHPAF and VPAF in Epiphone dot?
« on: March 04, 2016, 09:04:20 PM »
I picked up really nice Epi dot deluxe two weeks ago, its a Korean model with 57 epi pups, it sounds pretty good even with the stock pups but since I have a stash of VHPAFS and VPAFS I thought maybe a pickup change could make it sound even better. Anyone try these in a dot? My VHPAFS F spaced read a bit over 10k which will fit perfect in the bridge, I also have a couple F spaced VPaf bridge that read about 8.78. Changing pups the right way on these are a bitch (Ive done it on another one) or I can cheat and use the existing wires from the stockers, I am also going to install some duncan triple shot rings for switching options easier.
I also have a 36th an set and have some Dimarzio gold covers F spaced and reg spaced to match the gold hardware. What set should I install? also have some reg spaced VHPAF about 9.2 k. I am worried about too hot a pup in a semi hollowbody, I play pretty hard rock and it sounds pretty killer as it is, the stockers read 8.7k bridge and 7.9k neck. I know the DMZ will sound better.

The Pickup Place / tone zone s + areas what pots?
« on: June 23, 2015, 01:38:35 AM »
I have an 85 contemporary strat, I have a tone zone s, area 61 and 58 to install, what pot value is recomended for this combo? I usually run TBX tone controls and a basic 0.001uf cap for a treble bleed on my HSS/HSH strats, I dont want mud on the tonezone s but dont want ice pick on the areas, the area will have a series/split/parallel switch. I've never done it but I was thinking 250k pots and two TBX tone controls, I don't want to route this guitar, I have another one just like it and it has a super 3 and two D Allen JM rockin blues and a TBX and its my number 1 strat, it does everything well that one does not have the treble bleed but TBX is connected to bridge and neck and its amazing.

The Pickup Place / AT-1 and EJ in HSH strat
« on: June 23, 2015, 01:22:45 AM »
I have a couple Mahogany strats HSH,This one is mahogany with maple neck, I got an AT-1 for the bridge and got an EJ custom bridge model for the neck cause I think the output and less treble will match better with the AT-1, am I making the wrong choice in using the bridge in the neck?

The Pickup Place / Got me some VHPAFS and VPAFS need advice
« on: June 23, 2015, 01:11:48 AM »
After playing a friends music man with VPAFS I got on a quest to find some, I was able to find 3 virtual hots and 3 vpaf necks, still looking for a cream Vpaf neck. A couple questions,
I am installing one bridge and one neck in my mahogany strat, what pots? I read they are bright and 250k might be what I want but I like 500k in my hss strats and use TBX tone controls and treble bleed in most of them. I also have a 76 Les Paul custom with a maple neck and fretboard, I installed the transitions set, 500k pots, coil split etc and I hate them, sounds great split on the bridge but the bucker is just bland, I think the VHPAF and VPAF are going to fit the bill, If they sound like I think they will, I want to put gold covers and gold screw slugs so it looks stock, I am going to try the transitions in an ASH HH strat I am building,(all gold hardware) if they dont sound right can I swap the covers and screw slugs from them into the VPAFS? If they do does Dimarzio sell gold screw slugs?
I also may be putting a VHPAF in another strat, its a 86 contemporary model, it is HSS with one volume and one TBX tone control, I may use area 61 mid and area 58 neck, what vol pot? or do I add a resister and make the area's see 250k and bucker see 500k?
I am stoked I found these because they are one of the best sounding PAF type pickups I have ever heared. Again, I am looking for a neck cream VPAF, I have a PRS Johnny Hiland and the pickups are great but the VHPAF and Vpaf will even be better.
