Red/Black is the screw coil. If you connect black/white to red (assuming red is connected to hot) you would short the screw coil. If you use red as hot you need to connect black/white to ground.
If you use green as hot (e.g. because the BB is out of phase with the other pickup on the guitar and the phase cannot be reversed with that pickup) you need to connect black/white to red, which may not be possible with all wirings. Instead you can also connect black to hot, white to ground and red/green to ground as well.

Yes, the screw coil is the correct one. The DC resistance should be approx. 6 - 7 kohms. If he measures only 2 - 3 kohms, he got the wrong coil.

Keep in mind that DiMarzio's F-spacing is only 51mm and therefore not equal to the 53mm used by Seymour Duncan on the Trembuckers or by Bare Knuckle. An F-Spaced DiMarzio may work in the neck position depending on the nut width.

That is correct as we have AC signal but the load in that case is only reduced above the cut-off frequency of the cap - below that the tone pot is isolated from the volume pot. With the large caps like 0.022uf and higher, this is noticeable as the cut-off freq is low. However, I am normally using a cap ten-fold smaller, i.e. 0.0022uf so the effect is not drastic.

I actually did in several guitars. The only thing is that it may be a bit bright with 500k but I can lower the load until I like it. I 'll give it a shot.

Very interesting discussion. I am on the fence with my AT-1 in the double hum tele I have - one day I think it is fine and the next I think it's lacking bite. I considered the Air Zone but now it's out since I also don't want darker and/or more compressed.
I probably will try the spare F-spaced Air Norton which is currently not doing anything. I also have a trembucker spaced Duncan Custom 5 that I could try as well. The only thing that is shying me away is that the pickup is mounted in the bridge so that I have to remove the bridge to change the pickup - real work
and more work if I don't like it so I would definitely like to nail that one on the first try. Unfortunately I don't have a 36th to try.

Heavy Blues 2 and Injector neck are very close in output. The nominal output increase of the Heavy Blues 2 is compensated by the brighter tone of the Injector neck.

I experimented with smaller caps (although not that small) before I had access to the internet but for those specific values Ray is right.
.0015uf cap bridge singles or FT1. .001uf bridge humbucker (chopper for instance). .0022uf neck/middle single, .0033uf or .0047uf in parallel positions. I always use a super switch. Regular 5 ways are so 1950s and pedantic...
Fully agree on the values, except that I normally use the same value for everything but the bridge position for simplicity.
The regular switch severely limits the options because the positions are fixed. Although I use it in the following setup: bridge Lollartron, middle/neck Injector neck - very simple setup, nothing fancy there.
One tone dedicated to bridge only, and it only operates in switch position 1. 2nd tone controls the other 4 positions, but may use different cap sizes in different positions, see above.
500k (ones that measure 500k plus ONLY) in all positions except when doing the super duper series option wiring (I showed this to Stephan, but I'd appreciate it not being shared).
A separate tone control for the bridge pickup is very useful. In fact I have one guitar where the only tone control only controls the bridge pickup - no tone control on the neck pickup.

I use it wired as a single coil in an HSH set up. The non-humcancelling does not bother me there as it is never used alone but only together with the split bridge or split neck.

-61/58/58
-250k pots
-The middle tone control is assigned to the pair of Area 58s using a 22nF cap.
-The outside tone control is assigned to the Area 61 using a 1.8nF cap in series with a 5.1k resistor.
The 1.8nF tone cap really transforms the 61. The low pass, aided by the Gibbs effect, focuses the upper mids to drive an edgy amp into crunch territory. The series resistor optimizes the range of the control. I’m not a fan of the cockled-wah sound that happens when the tone resistance goes to zero.
I am also a fan of small tone caps and use anything from 820pf or 1000pf for a humbucker or 0.0015uf to 0.0022uf for single coils.
