Tanks for the reply! :)

Yes, that's why I thought to maybe put the Breed neck in the bridge - so to have a bold, modern PAF tone there and put the FRED in the neck spot. I imagine this could work nicely... (well either that, or sell on of those and replace it with something else)

Ok, it has been a long time but after a few personal issues have been sorted out, I'm back at guitar playing and the DiMarzio camp.

Just ordered:

Illuminator neck and Illuminator bridge for a crazy dual-humbucking Tele (1-piece Honduran Mahogany body / LP-scale Honduran Mahogany neck with quilt Maple fingerboard).

Fred with Breed neck (DP165) - for another crazy dual-humbucking Tele (same specs as the first, just different color)

I pretty much ordered these blindly, based on DiMarzio's descriptions, a few youtube vids and what I know I generally like regarding pickups - and where I wanted to go with these Tele's. Modern heavy one and Modern PAF-style the other.

I'm not set yet if I go Breed bridge and FRED neck or FRED bridge and Breed neck on the second one - let's see.
What am I in for???

Oh yeah, here's a pic of the first Tele - probably slightly different than what is usually being done... not for the faint of heart!
The second Tele is still in the "cutting" stage of the wood  :madness:

Super great and honest guy, as well as cheap and lightning fast shipping! I couldn't be happier!
Highly recommended as a trader and I will most definitely do business with again!

LOL!
Sorry bro!  ;D

Yeah, I could do that aswell. Didn't even occur to me. Althoguh I'm not trying to emulate AT's tone...

Great info guys, thanks. HSS is what I'm going for with this pickup. Thinking about possible matches for the bridge. Maybe FRED, Air Zone or PAF36Bridge or even SuperD...

Question: would you guys use the CruiserBridge in the neck position of a Strat with 250k or 500k vol and tone controls? I'm thinking of ordering one just to try it out and see why Timmons digs it so much (his neck pickup sound is awesome). And I'll be ordering a new pickguard and vol and tone controls, not sure what values to get though. Thanks guys

Everything you wanted to know about .... / Virtual Vintage '54 Pro

May I present this little gem to you?

Seriously, I feel pretty strongly that this is one of the best noiseless singlecoils for the neck position of a Strat.
For some reason, I kept overlooking this pickup on my search through the noiseless singecoil isle.
Maybe it's the name: '54 to me implies a bright sound and general 50's music which I'm not too fond of.

Anyway, the VV '54 Pro is everything I want from a neck pickup. It has a perfect balance of warmth and brightness, meaning it's warm - yet it still has an edge.
It's a really expressive pickup. There's tons of different voicings depending of how and where you hit the note. It's very woody and a little airy, yet still has a hint of glass in it's sound especially with the right picking technique. The attack is wonderfully juicy & slightly compressed.
Where the Area '61 pickup left me with a relatively bland taste - the '54 Pro was like a big juicy medium rare steak.
The '54 Pro is perfect for any kind of Blues and Rock. I wouldn't recommend it for Malmsteen type of Shred though. You might need something a little tougher there with a sharper Alnico5 attack.
But it's perfect for any kind of overdriven Hendrix, SRV or Rory Gallagher...

Requirements:
It works perfectly with 250k volume and tone controls - but the one thing it wants is to be put really close to the strings (which is not a problem, due to the softer Alnico2 magnetic field). Close to the strings - it shines. Back it up too far, and all those qualities start diminishing instantly.

Now I need an equally great bridge pickup!
'54 Pro in the bridge anyone?

Actually, it's in my top 3 list of "pickups to avoid and tell others about it" ;)

Just to give a slightly different perspective than buddy, I think the biggest difference between the PAF Pro and PAF Joe is in pick attack. While the Pro has an immediate reponse with a tight, defined and relatively sharp attack, the Joe has a very dull & swallowed, almost non-existant pick attack, which makes it great for some styles but really bad for others. The dull attack is followed by a relatively brightish tone which makes this pickup very unique - but for some players (including me) very unappealing. Let's put it this way: if you're into speedy, heavily distorted solo playing on the neck pickup and need definition and clarity, stay away from the Joe. But if your focus lies in clean and semi-dirty sounds with a mellow style and unique tone, the Joe is worth a try. Personally, although I'm a big DiMarzio fan, I think the Joe is a swing and a miss! By far.

No, the old PAF DP103 was a generic wind without any patents at all, yet it was one of my favorite neck humbuckers

The VPAF and VHPAF models were also airbuckers.
