The Pickup Place / Re: Active mount

No pick  guard.  They mount like a p90 except the top mount screws are on the far ends and not between the poles (like a p90).
This is what’s in the guitar currently.

The Pickup Place / Active mount

I wanted to swap the Pegasus/sentiment set for a set of Dimarzio passives (tone zone, Super D etc.)that will fit an active mount.
However, it seems that Dimarzio doesn’t make an active mount type pickup. The question was, has anybody managed to find a way to install Dimarzio’s in an active pickup rout without having to rerout the pickup cavity. Or am I stuck buying Duncans?
Sorry if my original wording was unclear.

I emailed Dimarzio the other day asking if they made active mount versions of a few of the pickups I was interested in, such as the Super Distortion, Tone Zone, Air Norton and the PAF. I was looking to swap out the Duncans (Pegasus/Sentiment) in my Ibanez 7 string.
They said they weren’t compatible with active mounts.
Has anybody found a way to overcome this or am I stuck with using a different brand?

I've also read that the 36th Anniversary with covers does not fit into the Les Paul's pickup route.
Not true. Mine is covered.

I have a 36th neck in my LP. I wouldn’t call it muddy but it’s definitely “loose” in the low end. Even so, I like it a lot. It sounds a lot like John Sykes neck pickup sound from his Whitesnake days. Check out his solo in “Is This Love”. That’s what mine sounds most like.
How about the bridge?

I have a Super Distortion bridge. Sorry.

I’d recommend a Super Distortion in the bridge and maybe a Bluesbucker or PAF Pro/Joe in h neck.

From what I understand the PAF Pro isn’t quite as bassy as the 36th Anny. I’m curious to hear your thought on it @Rabelais

Make sure you keep the receipt, boxes and everything you get with the pickup. Then on the Dimarzio website under the “support” tab, you should find this page:

I can’t really comment on how the Transition will match up with the Super D....I just don’t have any experience with the Transition. So I don’t want to say one way or another. All I can say is that I’m happy with the 36th that I have. It a classic, time tested combo imo. You may or may not like it. You’ll have to check it out for yourself.

It is bassy, and i can see how it could be muddy, but I kind of like the loose feel it has when playing low notes under gain. In the middle and upper registers I feel like it really sings.
Despite it listed as a vintage output pickup, I find it to be pretty powerful. It keeps up with the Super D easily.
For me, I found that I needed to play around with pickup height a little to find where both pickups sounded best.
Since you already ordered the Transition you may as well install it and see what you think. You can always swap later.

Thanks! I was just about to place the order for the PAF36 neck, just about to...
But I have been reading the Dimarzio Transition (neck) is a ''juiced'' Dimarzio PAF36 pickup.
I'm a little scared, but already pulled the trigger for it.

I'm still deciding if go FULL TRANSITION SET or the Dimarzio Super Distortion...
It feels weird when you're not familiar with a brand of products. I hope I didn't make a mistake...
If you don’t like the Transition and want the 36th instead, you can exchange within 30 days so keep the receipt.

I’ve got a Super Distortion/36th anniversary in my Les Paul. Couldn’t be happier.
