The Trading Post / FS: Ibanez RG8 with Ionizers - All white
« on: March 16, 2018, 03:59:09 am »
Hey folks, I've decided my stubby fingers no longer have to endure the torture of 8 strings so I'm selling my RG. I'd like to sell it for around $400 as the pickups are worth $200 or so alone.

You can check out pictures on reverb here:

The Pickup Place / New P-90 for epiphone es-339
« on: September 07, 2015, 05:21:45 am »
Hi guys
I recently got a new epi 339 with p-90s and I've really been digging it so far, the thing is the neck pickup is louder than the bridge and has a lot more bass. The pickup height isn't really adjustable and I have kinda been wanting something hum canceling anyways. So I figured I could balance the output by switching to a mini humbucker or virtual p-90 in the bridge and just keep the neck pickup (and tolerate the hum in that position)

I'm looking for something vintage voiced, the Kings of Leon inspired me to get this guitar and I know Caleb uses mini humbuckers. I'm not to hung up on getting a "real" p-90 sound from the bridge, just not full on humbucker, I have plenty of other guitars that do that just fine.

Thanks for any help!
EDIT: I forgot to mention the guitar has soap bar routes not dog ears like other epiphones, so mini HBs and dimarzio soap bars are all fair game.

The Pickup Place / Injector hum
« on: August 09, 2015, 08:16:42 pm »
Hey guys I installed an injector neck in my guitar today and it's humming like crazy, not exactly the "noiseless strat" sound I was expecting. I tried rewiring it and same result, loud hum. I have the black and white wires soldered together and the red to hot and the green to ground. Any thoughts? Thanks

The Pickup Place / Single coil to pair with PAF Master
« on: July 20, 2015, 04:38:00 pm »
Hey guys I recently got a PAF Master bridge for my Kramer striker and was looking for some advice on a neck single coil to go with it. I'm replacing a Breed and Air Norton S now that I've been wanting to play more garage rock/indie pop kind of stuff.
I love the PAF Master, hopefully I can review it soon, and I want "strattier" sound in the neck that will balance with the lower output as well not be too bright with 500k pots.
Thanks for any help!

The Pickup Place / Dimarzio PAFv Master?
« on: July 16, 2015, 12:34:24 am »
Did dimarzio mess up their packaging design? My new paf master has a letter v instead of a registered trademark symbol. As a graphic designer I just thought it was funny and curious if anyone else got one of these?

The Pickup Place / Super D for 7 and 8 strings + Ionizer 7
« on: April 27, 2014, 03:25:33 pm »
Hey guys, thought it might interest some of you that there are 7 and 8 string versions of the Super Distortion now available, as well as 7 string versions of the Ionizer set. They aren't on Dimarzio's website but you can buy them on ebay.

The Pickup Place / Ionizer first impressions
« on: April 26, 2014, 08:57:36 pm »
I finally had time to install the Ionizer neck and bridge models in my RG8 today, and I have to say I'm impressed. I was expecting them to be good but they really suprised me. These pickups have a great balance of low end thump and clarity that I was looking for.
My guitar now sounds very similar to Tosin's guitar in the Dimarzio demo video, the bridge is full sounding and you can hear the different notes of chords, and the neck pickup has a fluid sound similar to the liquifire and d-activator neck models.
Of course this is only after playing the guitar for 4 hours or so, so I'll have to see how I like them when the honeymoon phase is over, but for now I can't put it down  ;D

The Pickup Place / New SG bridge pickup
« on: January 25, 2014, 06:51:36 pm »
Hey guys, been a while since I've posted. So I have a dominion in the bridge of my SG and it is a fantastic pickup, it's just too "metal" for this guitar. I've got a breed in another guitar, and thinking swapping the two will solve most of my issues. I know it'd only take a couple hours to do, but I wanted to hear some opinions first. Especially about putting the breed in a SG, which might be death by mid-range.

The Pickup Place / Dactivator and liquifire 7
« on: October 21, 2012, 03:44:15 pm »
Hey guys just pulled the trigger on a D-activator 7 bridge and a Liquifire 7 for the neck, going to put them in my RG7321. Anyone have experience with these pickups, especially in basswood? Thanks :D

The Pickup Place / Illusive pick attack tone
« on: July 19, 2012, 09:36:37 pm »
John Frusciante gets the coolest pick attack in the solo for readymade, I know he plays most of the song on a les paul but the solo could be on his usual strat. The solo starts at about 2:30
Turn it up and listen to the pick attack, it's awesome ;)

Any tips or pickup recommendations to achieving this glassy and thick solo tone?

The Pickup Place / Dominion neck?
« on: April 28, 2012, 09:06:05 pm »
I'm thinking about putting a dominion in the bridge of my SG. I already have a 36th PAF in the neck and was wondering if the dominion neck model was worth getting :-\
I don't want the bridge to overpower the neck pickup

The Pickup Place / SC sized humbuckers with power
« on: October 31, 2011, 09:39:04 pm »
What single coil sized humbucker would you guys recommend for the neck and middle positions with enough power to balance with a D Acivator X in the bridge position. I dont want a significant volume drop when switching between pickups. I was thinking a BC-1 in the neck and an injector in the middle maybe...

The Pickup Place / Wiring help
« on: October 30, 2011, 11:53:41 pm »
I have a Super D and paf pro in a guitar with a 5 way switch and I want to wire it so it goes: neck, inside coils, both pickups, bridge parallel, bridge. I can't find a wiring diagram like it on dimarzios website ??? Thanks for any help.

The Pickup Place / Pickup between super distortion and breed
« on: October 23, 2011, 05:58:00 pm »
Is there a pickup that sounds similar to the Super distortion with more lows or a breed with more output and highs? I have both and they are both great pickups but I was wondering if there was a pickup with the best of both worlds, maybe a super 3?

The Pickup Place / Looking for new neck pickup for Gibson SG
« on: August 03, 2011, 10:46:42 pm »
The 490r in there is awful, it sounds dead and lacks character. Ive been looking at the 36th paf, I play through a Line 6 Spider 3. I want something that has classic gibson tone, rather than the Paf pro and Air norton that I tried which are stratty sounding to me. I like those pups too but want something different in this guitar. The bridge pup is an Angus Young sig which is a fairly hot alnico 5 HB.
This SG also has an ebony fretboard so I don't want anything too bright.
