The Pickup Place / Recommend me some pickups
« on: July 09, 2018, 03:39:17 pm »
Hi guys, I am looking for a set of pickups for an esp Ltd eclipse (les paul basically). I have one with a pair of 36th anniversaries in it.  The other has the stock POS still in it.

First off, I love everything about the 36s.
What I am looking for is the next step or two hotter for the bridge pickup.  I want to cover some harder rock and older school metal type of stuff.

I will most likely put some sort of paf type neck pickup in it.

Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, I just picked up an ibanez rg3xxv recently. Great guitar BTW!!

It is the one that comes with the air Norton s/ d-activator setup.

First, my likes

Everything I liked about the air Norton is there and then some with the single coil version It seems as if the closer spaced coils eliminate some of the mud I found in the regular version?
With that said, my low e string is a bit muddy and I wouldn't mind just a touch more top end (I would be happy with the amount of treble from the parallel mode when it is series.

The d-activator is unreal!  Before I played it, I didn't know there was anything tighter that a Duncan full shred. Well, I do now.  What is surprising is how nicely it cleans up when you lower it down away from the strings and/or lower the volume pot.
With this one, I love the actual eq, but I find it a little too dry. ( i play with my amp set on triode mode, so tighter, brighter pickups work well for me)

Now, I could solve this a few ways:

1. I could swap the d-act for something like an airzone and boost the treble/cut the bass on my amp. This would help me with the ANS

2. I could swap the neck pickup for something that balances (similarly eq'd) with the d-act.

I play all kinds of rock from the Zeppelin and rush to megadeth and Metallica type metal.

What do you guys suggest?

The Pickup Place / what makes the norton so bright?

Hey guys, I was just wondering why my norton equipped mahogany rg is significantly brighter than my full shred equipped basswood version?

Is it the crazy harmonics? :madness:

In comparison, the full shred seems kind of dull. I mean it is bright but the norton just comes across crunchier and tighter. Also more fluid.

what say you folks?
