The Pickup Place / Re: Air Classic set

Howdy,

Congrats. Air Classics remain the best HBs I've played in my 39 years of playing bad Guitar.

Howdy,

My 335 sounds wonderful with an Air Classic in the neck. Good luck!

Howdy,

I had similar issues (boomy neck, shrill bridge) with the SD '59s in my ES-335. I called Steve at DiMarzio. He suggested an Air Classic for the neck and a 36th Anniversary PAF for the bridge. Problem solved. It's so easy getting that neck Air classic dialed in now. Good luck.

Howdy,

Seymour Duncan SH-1 '59s. Difficult to dial in on my 335. Either too trebly or too bassy.

Howdy,

Why not the Air Classic? Sounds great in my old 335; the most "musical" P/U I've ever had.

The Pickup Place / Twang Kings sounded great w/ Mahogany Tele
« on: August 30, 2017, 12:22:28 AM »
Howdy, This evening I played a gig using my USA Custom Guitars Tele loaded with DiMarzio Twang Kings. My amp is a Dr.Z Carmen Ghia. It was necessary to keep the volume down, but my Tele sounded smooth and even "chimey" with my Carmen Ghia. Twang Kings are the best value Tele P/U on the market.

Howdy,

Neck: Air Classic. Bridge: Air classic or 36th Anniv PAF.
The Air classic neck and 36 Anni PAF are currently in my old ES-335. I'm a British Invasion kind of guy, so my taste is "old school". An Air Classic set would be fantastic, as they're so touch-sensitive. Good luck!

Howdy,

You are going to love the TKs, Paladin. I've a set of TKs in my Mahogany Tele and they're fantastic for everything from the Streets of Bakersfield to Exiles on Main Street! (forgive me for showing my age, LOL!).

The Pickup Place / Re: AIR Classic vs Paf36Th

Howdy,

I've an Air Classic (neck) and a 36th Anni PAF in the bridge of my old 335. The Air classic in the neck is fantastic; much better than the Duncan '59 I had in there. It's almost as touch sensitive as a Strat pickup, and is the best vintage type of 'bucker I've played.
The 36th Anni PAF in the bridge, while not disappointing, is a little too powerful for my purist tastes. It also has an EQ profile that's similar to a P90-middy. I've lowered it as far as I can and it's satisfactory, but I wish I'd have gone with an Air classic set. The 36th is surprisingly useful for British Invasion clean tones with my Dr. Z Carmen Ghia, though. Good luck!

Howdy,

Less than impressed? Seymour Suncan '59s. The neck was boomy and the bridge too trebly; seemingly no mids.
