The Pickup Place / New Jake Bowen Signature Mirage Pickups
« on: May 15, 2023, 11:57:33 AM »
Just got an e-mail from DiMarzio announcing the new Jake Bowen Signature Mirage pickups.

Interesting to see DiMarzio do a Humbucker and single coil sized rail humbucker set. Any one try them out?

Thanks for the review and comparison. Any reason why you stuck with the 250k pots?

I haven't heard of anyone ordering anything that hasn't been wax potted.

That's one hot axe guitar!

I really should get a CL/LF set of my own some time. Every time I install a set for a client, I'm always impressed by how great it sounds. You're right about it getting crunchier with less gain.

Would love to know what you think of it after your rotate the pickup around!

Welcome to the forum! I'm a bit late but the Steve's Special would be good although another option to consider is the Gravity Storm. Really hard to say for certain as it really depends on your guitar/amp combination but if you're in the US, DiMarzio allows you to exchange the pickup for another one if you find that the Steve's Special isn't cutting it for you.

I think its the anti corrosion thing elixir uses

Do you know whether they do this on the plain strings, too?

When I used to sell Elixir strings, my sales rep literally told me the plain strings are just regular strings. That might have changed as it's been years since I stocked Elixir strings.

The Pickup Place / Re: Air Zone vs Super Distortion?
« on: March 08, 2022, 02:33:23 PM »
I'm reading this and the first thing I'm thinking is how the Super Distortion sound with the Air mod?

Between the SD and the AZ, the best way I can describe the two is the SD is tighter with more crunch while the AZ is bigger with more fuzz. If anything the AZ is friendlier sounding and works great as a wall of distortion supporting a singer while the SD is more aggressive sounding.

Another option to throw into the mix is the Transition. It's very similar to the AZ but with a tighter more focused bottom end. You can think of it like an AZ after it's done a whackload of squats and booty workouts.

The Pickup Place / Re: MORE color options for DiMarzio 7-string models
« on: March 08, 2022, 02:23:59 PM »
Hey all, Thank you for finally having me first off, it took forever to get the confirmation email...

But I am curious as to what is DiMarzio's deal with why they don't do more color options for the 7-string models... and right off the bay, the colors that come to mind are pink, the green & yellow (like on the Ibanez UV777GR), and the chrome bobbins like on the UV77SVR (Silver, from the 3 Passion and Warfare anniversary models a few years ago...)...

I've since found out that apparently you can & someone has ordered the green & yellow combo for a UV70 Premium Universe, but that "there hasn't been enough of a demand for the chrome bobbin 7-string models" per thier tech via an email... And I'm sure that pink would still be a hard NO if inquired...

So does anybody else want DiMarzio to start making and offering more of the 7-string models in these colors and actually offer them on thier website like they do the 6-string counterparts???

Hello and welcome!! Sorry it took forever for you to get your registration e-mail. It turned out that our e-mails got rejected or filtered as spam by some service providers. Our server is hosted on a network that happened to have some other servers that were compromised and sending spam. It's like one or two neighbours bringing down the whole neighbourhood. Thankfully I found a solution to get around this problem and I'm happy to have you here!

The demand for 7 string models have always lagged behind their 6 string counterparts so funky colours are always a bit of a hard sell and tend to sit on shelves for a very long time. It's been a while since I last checked but weren't custom bobbin combinations available as a custom order through DiMarzio directly?

I think I found a workaround. Hopefully it works. Will need to do some testing.

This might take a bit longer than anticipated. I really hate how our server/IP address has nothing to do with the spam activity but has to deal with this just because of a handful of servers on the same network at the datacenter is misbehaving.

It appears the network our server is on has a few servers that have been flagged as spammers and we've been taken along for the ride. Trying to get us delisted right now but it definitely explains why some emails don't go through, especially in the EU.
