The Pickup Place / Hard time choosing between the titan and ionizer
« on: February 04, 2017, 10:35:35 PM »
My 7 string is a 25.5" scale basswood/maple/rosewood and tends to sound loose and boomy when i palm mute. I need a tight pup with medium-high output and a lot of upper mids.

The ionizer 7 specifically mentions being designed for non-baritone scales, but people are raving about how tight and versatile the titan is. I use the guitar for everything from blues/rock to prog metal.

Who has used both?

The Pickup Place / Air Norton to Norton

How exactly would i make an Air Norton into a Norton? Bars under the screws? I want to try a Norton just because.

The Pickup Place / Re: Virtual Hot Paf or AT-1

It acts like a very over-wound PAF type.

Just to make it clear, you are referring to the Norton, not the AT-1, correct?

Thanks, Stephan

I really liked the Virtual Hot PAF, but did not like the AT-1 at all (although I do like Andy Timmons' tone a lot). I wish they still made the Virtual Hot PAF. I think it will be much more versatile and will mesh with the 36th neck better.
My experience exactly. The AT-1 only sounded good almost touching the strings and got honkey as i backed it away trying to lower the output. I tried it because i love andy's tone, but i exchanged it for an Air Norton and I'm  completely satisfied. It acts like a very over-wound PAF type.

I was gonna say lol. A XXX with KT77's and an active pickup should be a kick in the chest with every palm-muted downstroke.

You need to use 3'n'1 oil on the nut, and cut the nut slots to the proper gauge of string your using.
