The Pickup Place / Re: Schematic Help Needed

Do you want the pickup to be out of phase with itself or with other pickups?  That almost looks like it puts the pickup out of phase with itself.

That's a Dimarzio Shockwave system.  The part near the jack is a battery powered booster.  IIRC it's a 30db boost?  It more than likely doesn't work in the boost position without a battery.

I would just buy a shorter legged baseplate from Mojo and drill it out for direct mount.

A great combo is Fastrack II bridge/Duckbucker middle/JB Jr neck.

Each type of pole has different tonal variations and they are used to tune the response of each type of pickup.  My theory is that since Dimarzios mostly use brass baseplates which accentuate the midrange that's why they use mostly hex heads because they attenuate the midrange and sharpen treble response.

For Duncan the bare/green go to ground and white/red are twisted together and black goes to the hot lug.

For the Dimarzio the bare/green go to ground and black/white are twisted together and red goes to the hot lug.

Screamin Demon - It sounds great with low gain but sounds honky with high gain.  I think it is poorly described and marketed.  Oddly enough with a ceramic magnet it sounds a lot like a Super II.

Pearly Gates - A PAF with laryngitis.  Way too bright and the bass was farty.

Air Norton - Raspy and bright.  It would make a decent neck pickup for a JB but is way too bright for bridge.

HFH - I didn't like it for a long time until I tried it with a maple neck.  It is not the radical corrective surgery that it is billed to be.  With ebony and rosewood it sounds dark and weak.

Megadrive - Sounds a lot like a passive EMG81.  Unimpressive overall.

EMG81 - It just felt fake.
