Dimarzio once suggested a Dimarzio Norton/Dimarzio 36th anniversary PAF neck set for my dual humbucking Tele guitar. Sounds great and quite versatile too

In a H/H guitar, I quite like the 81/81 combo in three of my other guitars. However, I also do own an EBMM Luke BFR with 85/SLV/SLV, and a limited edition Luke True Gold with 85X/SLVX/SLVX, and also a Valley Arts guitar with 85/SAV/SAV. They are sound great. Again, never had any hums issues ever

have you guys ever tried to do some noise tests under high gain and with ambient low freq magn field of 0.4uT or over? Do this and you will see how noisy the EMG 81 is.

High gain, yes, definitely. Probably never in that ambient low frequency magnetic field thing you've mentioned. Again, I'm not saying what you are experiencing isn't true, I'm just mentioning my own experiences so far. Just clarifying on the matter

I wouldn't take their word as gospel. Anyway, I do own several guitars loaded with EMGs. I never had a hum issue myself. If it ever hummed with a certain setup, regular magnetic pickups would hum louder with the same rig setup

Hmm. Shouldn't be humming. In fact, EMGs are very quiet pickups. Might be the wiring or pickup is having issues

The Pickup Place / Re: Tone Zone S or Injector - Bridge in a strat.

First of all, do you want to drive of a humbucker or you don't mind a bit less? Because the Tone Zone S would drive the amp harder with its output being similar to a humbucker, whereas think of the Injector as a louder single coil

37
I'm confused as to why you would want a humcancelling single coil in the bridge when the SSL-1s aren't  ???

Anyway, the Dimarzio Heavy Blues 2 or if you really want low output, or the HS3 might do the trick

38
So guys, (and gals) Virtual Solo or Injector bridge?

IMO, based on what you've mentioned, I think you should go for the Virtual Solo

39
I was told that the Virtual Solo is even smoother and fatter than its predecessor. Anyway, have you tried wiring the tone pot to the bridge pickup?

40
Perhaps try the Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2? The Virtual Solo should be quite smooth though

Perhaps try and upload the photos on a photo hosting site like photobucket. Then paste the image link on here using the appropriate code

The Pickup Place / Re: Can anyone recommend me a pot?
« on: January 03, 2017, 05:43:32 AM »
A regular 500k ohm pot will suffice. Some other options is personally preference. Some knobs require the use of a solid shaft, as opposed to split. So far with a three dozens or more guitars I've owned, I just use the split shaft ones. Never had any trouble fitting knobs ever. I guess in general the knbos that employs grub screws to hold onto the shaft would be best suited to a solid shaft, whereas a push down and insert knob would be best suited to a split shaft. As for the long shaft, that's to fit thicker bodied guitars, like a Les Paul guitar or whatnot

Quick question! If I disconnect the tone from a liquifire/crunch lab would that affect the tone? I'm thinking of changing the pickups on my charvel soloist from EMG to the JP set but this guitar only has a volume control and no tone.

It will slightly. You notice a bit more high end and output. Some even think it sounds more "open"

Haven't had any of those pickups in a set before. However, I've tried a few in different guitar within a different set. The 36th anniversary PAF neck might just seal the deal for you. If you want something even more fat than that, then try the Air Norton, Liquifire, or even the Breed neck. As for the bridge, those three will probably do the trick. It really depends on the output, feel, etc. that you want out of a bridge pickup. The Super Distortion is great if you are looking out for a high gain PAF type of sound. I love the Tone Zone. It's a fat sounding pickup, whilst having that string separation and top end that just sings. The AT-1 IMO is somewhat similar, but with lower output, and some might say, better control with that in mind
