Guitar Lounge / Frankenstein Bass Question
« on: September 22, 2020, 02:20:19 PM »
Hey, everyone,

I just ordered some parts to put together a bass from a guitar with a FUBAR body. This is my first ever guitar-related project.
The seller I ordered the guitar from was selling an ESP V-50. I noticed it's a thru body set up. I saw from the pictures the high E occupies most of that empty space in the holes for the strings.
So, I guess my question is: What kind of work would go into making a thru body guitar work as a thru body bass?

Guitar Lounge / Thoughts and Opinions on Yamaha?
« on: July 03, 2019, 01:41:21 AM »
Hi, Everyone,

Just wanted to get a quick opinion from a few people first hand about Yamaha guitars.

The AES 720 and the TBDX Basses caught my eye due to their pretty gnarly body shapes. The raised hourglass body in gunmetal of the 720 looks pretty sweet, but do these instruments really sound as great as they look?

If possible, I love my ESP axes. How would a 350 - 400 range ESP compare to the same price range of Yamaha in make, build quality, playability, and stock sound?

Thanks in advance!

Gear Closet / Baritone Amp Suggestions
« on: June 20, 2019, 02:50:51 AM »
Hi, Everyone,

For the longest, I've been routing my Vipre 200-B through the "Studio Pre" profile on my Mustang GT-100. As you might be able to guess, the sound isn't really cutting it for me anymore.

I was looking at getting an amp just for my baritone (the GT-100 works well for my EC-256), but the problem is I don't have a lot of cash (I get all my stuff through Zzounds) or room to buy a 4x12 and a head. I'm don't gig or anything and it would mostly be used for bedroom practice and playing.

My idea was, if I find a Fender 100w amp for cheap- like a Champion 100 or something- and replace the speakers with some of those Swamp Thangs by Eminence, would that be able to handle the baritone or would I need to look elsewhere? I really like Fender amps for their awesome cleans, but if I need to include something like a 5150 or a Blackstar to my arsenal then I'll just have to do so if a Fender in any capacity won't be able to do what I need; even the Hotrod Deluxe.

I'm open to suggestions!
Thanks in advance!

News & New Guys / Dat New Boi

Hi, Everyone,

I'm The_Spell. As you might be able to tell, I'm somewhat of a fan of the Iommi/Hughes projects "The Dep Sessions" and "Fused" with Fused being my favorite of those two.

I've been playing bass on and off for 10 years, and I just started learning rhythm guitar. I'm an ESP guy, played through Fender amps, using Boss pedals. I don't have a pick up I favor, but when I find I'm going to represent it. I'm somewhat of a brand loyaltist, you see.

I mostly play and listen to a lot of rock and metal, with other genres here and there that aren't jazz and country- though I do like old school acts like Johnny Cash, Hank II, Willy, and Dolly. Some of my favorite bands are The Duskfall, Type O Negative, TOOL, Iron Maiden, The Misfits, Black Sabbath, and Agalloch.

I'm somewhat of a noob to certain aspects of guitar and bass, which means I like to ask a lot of questions.

Hopefully that does it for my intro. See you guys around!

The Pickup Place / Pick Ups for Baritone
« on: June 20, 2019, 01:14:58 AM »
Hi, Everyone,

I've got an LTD Vipre 200-B that I've grown to love playing on more than my bass and my normal sixxer. Only problem is, I've become very unhappy with the sound so I was looking at tossing some new pick-ups in it.

I was looking at tossing in a D-Sonic and a PAF pro in it, just try something new. I was also looking at some SD Blackouts and EMG 81/85 pairing (though I feel like the EMGs are way overdone and I already have a pair in my bass. It's one of those "been there, done that kind of things in regards to the EMGs) as alternatives.
I play a lot of hard rock and metal. My goal was to try to bring out the natural sound of the baritone itself. You know, something that sounds good in a basswood body tuned to B-B.
I'm open to suggestions!

Thanks in advance!
