If the PAF Pro is muddy then PAF Joe would be a step up in brightness. So would be the Humbucker From Hell but that one has way more bass than the chart would indicate. Personally I like the Bluesbucker.

For the bridge, almost anything from DiMarzio will be less bass / low mid heavy than the Tone Zone. If you do not need high output, Mo Joe is worth considering. For higher output, Transition bridge is great. I love it in my PRS S2 Standard 24 but that is a rather dark sounding guitar to begin with. If your guitar is on the brighter end, then it may be too bright. In that case, Air Zone, AT-1 or Dominion could work well.

Good luck,
Stephan

Depends on what tones you are looking for.
Dimarzios seem to work well with Ibanez RG's.
I like the:
Crunch Lab / Liquifire set
Air Zone / Paf Pro set
Fred / Paf Joe set
Gravity Storm Set
Have a Tone Zone and PAF PRO...Sound a little muddy,no saturation, and a little dull...like to brighten it up hair..and some sustain..

Now as you've mentioned it I noticed it before, too. But I have no idea what this means - certainly not "uncovered" as this does not make sense for the Area series.

Nice review.  Always wanted to try a Super Distortion and wondering what to put in the neck of my HH Ibanez, found the answer.

Thank you. I hope review helps you to find right pickup :)

I could be wrong, but seem to recall that originally the PP was developed for Jazz/Rock guitarist Bill Connors.

That is correct - that was mentioned in one of the 80s catalogues.

Cheers Stephan

Those catalogs... Finding them was hard to me but now it gets more difficult. We (dimarzio fans or users whatever) should scan what we got sometime...

It’s a long thread which I haven’t read in its entirety, so apologies if this has been covered.

What does the U mean after the color code on the part number?

I’ve seen this on various Area single coils.
For example I have a pair of Area 58s. One says DP415W and the other DP415BKU. I have a VV54P that says DP408BK. There’s currently a VVHB2 on eBay with the number DP409AWU (aged white). Mine says DP409W. I also found an Area 61 with the number DP416WU.
