The Pickup Place / Pro Track vs Super Distortion S in neck
« on: October 28, 2019, 01:38:52 PM »

Hi guys!
This is my guitar I crafted and put Evo 2 and VVHeavy Blues 2 pickups. While I happy with sound of Evo 2 I want something more powerfull and compressed replacement for neck VVHB2.
Thinking about Pro Track or Super Distortion S. Which one will better match with Evo 2 and which one will scream and cut like Evo? I prefer when bridge and neck pickups have equal output and dynamic.
P.S. It should has good split tone too.

The Pickup Place / Dual rail singles equivalent of DiMarzio Evolution set?
« on: December 14, 2018, 08:17:48 PM »
Hi guys!
Which dual rail single sized DiMarzio pickups will be most close to the sound of Evolution humbuckers (more interested in Evo2 and Evolution neck)?
Fast Track 2 in both bridge and neck positions?

The Pickup Place / Replacement for VV Heavy Bues 2
« on: August 12, 2018, 02:16:43 PM »
Hi!
I have Heavy Blues 2 pickup in neck position of my guitar paired with Evo 2 in bridge and want replace it with more bright sounding pickup but don't loosing power at the same time. VVHB2 is too dark for me. Tried Virtual Solo that was even more dark and Chopper too smooth and lack of character.
This pickup must be very bright and screamy

I have some candidates list:
1. Fast Track 1 - I really liked its clean sound in all youtube demos but waht about hi-gain and matching with Evo 2?
2. Pro Track or Fast Track 2 with toggle switching for parallel wiring. IMHO for best veritility. But will parallel mode wil be bright enough?
3. Injector neck.

The Pickup Place / Evolution Neck with Alnico 4
« on: May 03, 2017, 02:14:18 PM »
At least modded my Evolution neck's magnet with alnico 4.
Result is not bat at all but I am not happy as with its own factory Ceramic so with a new Alnico 4.
Now it lost its boomy lows and cold ice picky highs. More warmer and at the same time less bassy. And lost its power due to magnet weakness. Some sort of woody sound good for jazz.
Well I can say this pickup sounds like.. hmm.. like Chopper! Yes. Not exactly the same but has some similarities. Chopper with increased harmonics, power and a little bit of more mid wah sound.
So... this is not sound I am running for. But may be some one who will do this mod will be happy :)

The Pickup Place / Air Norton S vs Regular Air Norton
« on: April 19, 2017, 04:35:51 PM »
Hi everyone!
Is there big difference between Air Norton S and Regular Air Norton or they are really similar?
I had some experience with regular Air Norton.
Made some search but did not find any valuable information about them. Some guys say S version is better than regular, some say this is very muddy and bassy, some say this is very bright and almost single coilish  :-\ it is really confusing!
Have any one any experience with both of these pups?  ???

The Pickup Place / SOS! Cracked magnet!
« on: April 13, 2017, 05:41:21 PM »
Guys! Help!
I opened DiMarzio Evolution neck's base plate and found magnet bar cracked into 2 pieces.
I guess overheating baseplate with soldering iron caused this while I tried to fix destroyed threads to soldering screw nuts.
Now I want to buy a new magnet via eBay. But do not want ceramic. Want to try some  alnico. Will alnico 4 be good or alnoco 2???? Which magnet will smooth highs and reduse bass?

P.S. sorry for my lack of English knowledge.

The Pickup Place / Too boomy Evolution neck
« on: March 16, 2017, 12:04:26 PM »
Hi!
While Evo 2 and Original Evolution my favorite bridge humbuckers I am not happy with Evolution neck. It is too boomy for me whatever guitar, strings, amp I used with it.
Is it possible to mod this pickup to reduce its lows or low mids. Magnet swap, pole screws or base plate change? I like modding. And modded all my instruments.

...and if it is impossible to brighten up this pickup what pickup I should use for neck? I've tried long time ago LiquiFire and Paf Joe. Liked them. Even LiquiFire was not bassy like evo neck. But these pickups were on basswood guitars. So I do not know will they work on my alder guitar and will they match good with Evo 2 on bridge. I play mostly old school heavy metal and neo-classical shredding. And wish neck humbucker sound with some single coil bite. More close to Malmsteen sound as  it possible with humbucker.

But first priority for me it is make Evolution neck more bright. Make it less boomy and do not loose power.

The Pickup Place / Need help to find proper neck pup.
« on: December 08, 2016, 12:59:43 PM »
Hi!
I need help. Can't find proper single coil noiseless size neck pup. My guitar has alder body, 24 frets maple fretboard and floyd rose. Bridge pickup is Evo 2.
I need pup that has enough power to match with Evo 2.
Tried Virtual Solo and Chopper. Virtual solo is great pickup for bridge. For neck it is too dark, bassy (even it has a little bit single coil glassy chime) and not enough output to match with Evo 2. Chopper did not impressed me at all. This pickup do not have enough output and it is darker than I expected.  Even on DiMarzio's web page it shows 260 mV for Chopper and 200mV for Virtual Solo they have equal power. And chopper poor with harmonics. Too dull for me.

Candidates for choose: Pro Track or Air Norton S. Which one is more bright?
Or should I look for in different place like Seymour Duncan JB Jr.?

I mostly play heavy, thrash, speed metal glam/hair and neo-classic.
